Charges but looks damaged out of the box
The only reason I am giving this item 3 (revised to 4 see below) instead of 1 star is that it works. At 8 am this morning, my I phone 5 was dead. We had some fog this morning so I could not get direct sunlight but eventually the fog cleared and my phone awoke from its slumber. I was able to get to 61% battery in 1.5 hours with the panels aimed out of a east facing window. I plan to test these panels over the next few weeks before I go hunting in October. I want to be 100% sure this thing won't crap out on me in remote terrain. The screen is banged up and scratched. Even if I remove the plastic film the screen is marked up underneath. I do not know if this item was field tested, returned, or refurbished but it's definitely not new. Unless it fails to work, I will keep it and just voice my complaint about the item's appearance here. I would recommend the person reading this to stay away from this product because when you open a box and see an item you paid money for that looks like this one, you generally feel disappointed and regret buying it. Look at the picture I am attaching.. Looks like a three year old used it as a play toy. So shame on the manufacturer for putting this quality out on the market.. Either there was a flaw in the manufacturing process or the shipment of the bulk product was damaged (a lot of reviewers are getting the same looking product). It looks like crap but it's charging my phone so I will give this item a try.October 14, 2015 Update: So a PowerAdd company representative just called me as I'm hanging out at the airport waiting for my next flight.. I am coming back from a hunting trip where I had successfully used this solar charger and it worked throughout my trip. The representative told me they are sorry for the poor looking product I received and that they want to replace it with a new charger.. Wow so they must really care about their feedback.. So I will revise my complaint and recommend this product to shoppers.. I was in the field with only my google maps on my I phone to guide me out of my hunting area.. I aimed this device at the sun and it charged my phone. Perfect when you're in the mountains with no power outlets.

Great for the price, with some flaws
This 7W solar charger works very well for its price. Its build quality seems good so far other than the little string grabber things that you can see all around the charger. Upon opening the velcro for the first time, I actually pulled one of the strings out of the stitching. Not a big deal though. As for the charger itself, it has charged all of my USB powered devices so far, with the only issue being directly charging an iPhone. It will charge the iPhone just fine in uninterrupted, direct sunlight (I got up to 500 mAH current on the iPhone in midday sun). However, as soon as a cloud passes over, or some other interruption occurs which lowers the charging current, the iPhone will give an error message about the charger and will stop charging. It won't start charging again until you unplug the iPhone and plug it back in. So, basically you can't charge an iPhone unless you either have completely uninterrupted sunlight or you want to babysit it and unplug/replug it every time a cloud passes. A simple solution to this is to just buy an external battery pack (very cheap now as well) and charge that all day in the sun, and then use that to charge your iPhone. The 500 mAH current in direct sunlight is comparable to charging via the USB port on most laptops (much faster than I expected for a solar charger). All in all, for its price it's definitely worth it. If you want faster charging though, you might want to try the 14W model. This one is good for just setting and forgetting about it and letting it charge all day. I'd probably buy it again, or maybe the 14W model.

Pretty good sun
It's been a while since I tested the real functionality of this charger so I don't remember exact details, but I can say that it functioned well. I plugged in a 100% drained LG G Flex (very large 3,500mA battery). I started in the mid-afternoon. Pretty good sun, with occasional clouds. The charger was laying flat, not angled toward the sun. Over the course of the remaining afternoon and evening the phone charged to 30 or 40%. I decided to leave the phone out so it would continue charging the next day. By roughly early afternoon the next day it was fully charged. So it took roughly 14 or 15 hours (July, long days) to fully charger a 3,500mA battery. Only occasional clouds, weak morning and evening sun, and good mid-day sun. That is substantially below 7 watts of output, but that was expected. Numbers like that are usually rated in absolutely ideal conditions and usually inflated some beyond that. What is important is that the charger is enough to keep a modern smart phone charged even with fairly heavy use. It met that expectation so I consider it a success.A couple other notes: Construction seems good. The carry loops are nice for clipping it to a bag. The built in pocket won't hold a huge phone (wouldn't hold the G Flex) but should fit most smart phones and battery banks. The plastic over the solar cells is hard to see and has to be torn off (not a real problem, just be sure you are aware of it)For the $15 I paid on sale or even the standard $20 price I consider it a great deal. Decent wall chargers are more than that in brick and mortar stores.
