If only real news programming were like this
I am very pleased that "The Newsroom" is part of Amazon Prime's offerings. I no longer use cable or other service to deliver programming -- why pay those prices for only an occasional good program? So far, this is one program that appears to be exclusive to Amazon Prime; I haven't seen it offered on Netflix or Hulu yet.I had watched the first season of "The Newsroom" back when I did have cable. I was delighted when I saw it in the Amazon Prime lineup, and am pleased to be able to watch seasons two and three.I'm a long-time "West Wing" fan, and watch "The American President" whenever I see it offered. With "The Newsroom," Sorkin continued to deliver topical, intelligent, tightly paced, well-written programming. He does it while creating believable, compelling, and interesting characters who allow us to care about them even when we don't like them. The casting is superb. The characters draw us into a story, and many writers and producers forget about that. I've seen decently written series that were badly cast, which caused me to stop watching. The sets are believable and visually interesting. Sorkin has a knack for pulling it all together.I am also a former broadcast journalist, having been in the business back when newsrooms still had some independence, real news staffs who went out to get the news, and writers who could spell and who cared about the information being presented. It wasn't perfect even then, but it was certainly better than it is now. I rarely even watch the news any longer, but if it were offered the way this fictional news team offers it, I'd be on board. Unfortunately, this is a fictional team, and I doubt the fast-food American public could handle this level of complexity in a real news program. I suggested "The Newsroom" to my very conservative sister back when it first aired, but she found it to be boring. Nor could she couldn't tolerate the diversity of viewpoints presented by the program as it presented real-world events in its now-we-know-all-the-details-that-we-didn't-know-then fashion.I'm sorry this series only lasted for three seasons.Note to Amazon -- if Amazon Prime starts to charge per episode for this one (as seems to happen after I get into a show that I like), I will lobby Netflix and Hulu to add it. I dislike paying an annual premium, find something I like, and then after I'm into it for a season discover that I have to pay to watch the rest of the seasons. Not cool, Amazon.

Miss the real news? This is your show (first 3 seasons)
This is the most amazing serious show in a very long time (first 3 seasons). Classy, timely, fascinating for thinkers and observers, perhaps idealists. It actually covers real news, too--news of the recent past. The premise and plots are timely and it has a message that needed to be conveyed. I wonder if the younger generation cares much about the message, or maybe even understands the premise of the show. But for those of us who miss the real news, this is our show. The characters are fascinating, even riveting. The characters are distinctly odd and un-alike, as real people are in most innovative (or fresh) companies. Odd personalities thrown together to make great things, odd things happen. The personal plots surrounding them are timeless, to keep up the emotional interest in the characters, and the actors chosen to play these roles are the prefect fit for the roles. Completely and utterly believable, so far. Unfortunately, the producer was promoted in the 3rd season and the owner changed. It's nice for the glass ceiling and another media style, but probably a huge loss for the show and its original audience. We'll find out. Some of the story lines are absolutely heartbreaking, but they're done through the eye of the objective media, staying true to the old news media premise and its hard core specialist personalities. I was torn a little about that, but I liked that the show was staying true to the news--it's premise. And, there's enough emotion to go around, especially for the thinking, news watching people the show was originally geared to.If you like cutthroat, this series has a good deal of that and is probably moving further in that direction. (Snore.) It is a reflection of the real world, unfortunately. Personally, not interested in deeper cut throat or cat fights, but that's just me. I prefer the news stories and the stories behind them, not feeding corporate greed.I have to feel I'm part of something greater than myself as a viewer of any media. The Newsroom has me there, right now. Can't wait for the next season, but my expectations have been lowered by the finales (2 of them in the 3rd season alone), and one exceptionally well done. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised in the 4th season, but true to real life, I think the news is already out of the picture and the audience has taken over. We'll see.

It's One Thing After Another
'Newsroom' season 2 has found it's legs. It takes place in Atlantis Cable News and Jeff Daniels plays Will McAvoy. It is said his character is a take off of Keith Olbermann, late of MSNBC, though everyone denies it. Gruff exterior with a brilliant mind. He is taken off guard when his producer moves to a new show and takes his staff with him.Emily Mortimer, plays MacKenzie, an old love and now his new executive producer. Mortimer is the one thing wrong with this show. I don't see the chemistry between she and Will.John Gallagher, Jr., plays James "Jim" Harper, a producer who was offered another job when MacKenzie's previous show was canceled but turned it down to follow her. Alison Pill, plays Margaret "Maggie" Jordan: an eager associate producer of News Night. She has complicated personal relationships, and she has just come back from Africa and a very difficult situation.Alison is a true spirit and great actress. Dev Patel plays Neelamani "Neal" Sampat, the writer of Will's blog and news scanner of the Internet. He becomes an ncreasingly mportant member of the team. Olivia Munn plays, Sloan Sabbith. She is an economist with a show on the network, and is easily the best of the group. Sam Waterston plays Charlie Skinner, the ACN news division president, and always upset or solving dilemmas. Jane Fonda has a bit part as the owner of the network.Within the second year, many controversial plots are hatched, shows are spawned, new issues to develop, and relationships to figure out. A show firing has caused a legal suit. Mac has had a situation get out of hand, and it is the 2008 election. Enjoyed this year.Recommended. prisrob 05-01-17

How Do You Watch The News?
I love this show. They had me from the opening scene in the first episode of the first season. It's a fast-paced, witty peek into the world of television journalism and the struggle of genuine newspeople to compete with what has become entertainment masquerading as news. It's well-written, well-acted, and well worth repeat viewings, as, granted, the dialogue moves so fast it's hard to keep up during a first run. The beauty there is that a second, third and even fourth viewing will unearth more gems in the banter! This series has changed the way I watch the news. It breaks my heart that Aaron Sorkin has decided to quit - series of "The Newsroom" caliber are extremely hard to come by. Many have tried, few have matched.

Ottimo prodotto edizione buona

starring Jeff Daniels and a brilliant supporting cast
The Newsroom Season II, starring Jeff Daniels and a brilliant supporting cast, is just as enigmatic, and quirky as Season I. Get prepared to recognize 'real world' news events, conspiracy theories, and the ever-edgy, and cynical staff of Atlantis Broadcast News, as they navigate their way through hard hitting stories and major distractions which might even bring the News Network down! This arrived just as Season III started on HBO. Perfect timing - I get to refresh, and watch the previous season's episodes, as I prepare for THE FINAL SEASON. Stay tuned!
