Q: Could you fill it up with Matrix bio media instead of the media provided?

Yes essentially you could. The point is to keep the healthiest bacteria on it though by keeping it moving. I don’t use this filter at the moment. I use biohome ultimate. It’s much better than seachem matrix as a media. It will give you a full cycle

Q: Hi I have three common goldfish in a 240 litre tank, would this filter be adequate for them, or would I need additional filtration?

The manufactures claim it could handle it, and although it’s a really good filter (I’ve been using it for around 6 months) I’ve never kept goldfish but hear they’re pretty messy, the filter would cover biological filtration but it’s only got a very small mechanical sponge, you’ll need an air pump to run the filter anyways so I’d add a cheap sponge filter to increase mechanical filtration

The approx. sizes are 75mmdia. x 250mm. long , hope that helps.
