One Day I Will Save Myself: Poems in English and Spanish

Awesome for bilingual speakers
How often can you find a poetry book in both Spanish and English? This was great for me as a Mexican American who was raised in a Spanish speaking home but who speaks more English in the real world. Sometimes it’s easier to express my feelings in Spanish (it’s a more passionate language I believe) but sometimes i would like to read in English because it’s easier for me to fully grasp the words and concept. I loved this idea and will continue to purchase her books. Me encanto!

Great way to learn English or Spanish
I bought this book since it was in Spanish and English. I thought it is a great book to help me learn more Spanish vocabulary and how to write in Spanish.

the books are new?
everything arrived well! The two books arrived but I'm not sure they are new since one arrived scented (which is appreciated because it smells very rich, but I don't know if someone used it before or they just wanted to give me a nice detail) there are even yellow spots (I think it's from perfume)on the other hand, the another book arrived scratched from the bottom, which is why I have doubts as to whether they are both new or used. from then on all good.

Bad.
It’s just a collection of poems, not a different book.

The kind of work that touches a nerve and goes beyond language
Elvira Sastre knows how to be both accessible and powerful. Her poems have so many clever, quotable, memorable lines, like "I would set fire to Troy/ While I gave you Paris."There's a lot of poems on heartbreak out there, but One Day I Will Save Myself proves that everyone's experience is different. Sastre brings her own unique, unreplicatable perspective on something that almost everyone suffers through. Reading these poems, I really felt that poems are a piece of the poet's heart. My friend, who recently broke up with her boyfriend, read "Three Thousand Heartbeats and Two Hundred Liters of Blood" and cried. This collection is all about going through heartbreak and finding healing, finding catharsis despite (or because of?) the pain, and it clearly resonates with people who went through what Elvira is describing.I was (pleasantly) surprised at how smooth both the English and the Spanish sounds. Neither feels like a translation, but rather a work written in its native language. If you know both Spanish and English you get to discover the nuances of both, but you get just as strong an experience if you only know one language. And if you want to learn Spanish, this is a great way to start! Having two languages in one poetry makes for a unique experience, and I want to read more poetry collections like this. Also the drawings are so pretty! The clean, minimalistic style adds to the poetic interpretation without drawing attention away from the poems. Overall, a solid collection. This is the kind of passionate, real work that can scrape your heart raw if you come across it at the right time in your life.
