French White 2.5-quart Oval Casserole with Glass Lid Durable Stoneware Material

Nice casserole dish but delicate lid
I bought this to replace an old French white casserole dish that cracked in half. I like the size and the handles on either side but the lid is really delicate and will likely get broken in short order unlike my old one that had a solid glass lid.

Very nice, except..
Very nice. The height of the rim does a very nice job of keeping liquids inside from overflowing. But be careful not to bump the handle on the lid on anything. The screw which comes through from the underside to hold the handle in place is made of ceramic, and it is small and very brittle! I broke one of mine bumping it against a refrigerator shelf.

Handled casserole fish
I love this casserole dish. It’s the perfect size and I’m so glad they’ve made this size with handles. Makes it so much easier for me to get the dish out of my over the stove microwave.

Manufacturer mistake on the lid knob
I love the baking dish....the lid however the ceramic knob on the lid broke in the oven the very first time I used it. I was only making a vegetable dish in in a 350° oven. I don't even know where to get a new knob. I already had baking dishes that were given to me with no lids...I guess I am back to foil again. It's not worth the headache of returning it. However it would be very nice if the manufacturer or seller would replace the knob. I read other reviews but only after the fact. Does anyone ever own up to an issue?

Lid Knob Broke Immediately
There is a clear product design defect with the lid and knob, as the ceramic knob broke immediately, during the first use. I bought this as a gift for my 71-year-old mother, and we were excited because the handles on the casserole made it safer for her to use. However, although she used it according to Corningware's own manufacturer's instructions, which say the lid is safe for use in a preheated oven, the ceramic knob broke during the first use. The knob is secured with a spiral fixture that fits through a plastic O-ring through a hole in the glass lid. This fractured in the oven, so that part of the knob fell into the food during cooking. Thank goodness we noticed and were on the lookout, as it would have been a clear choking hazard. The lid looked completely fine going into the oven, with no sign of a crack or other problem with the knob, and it was not roughly handled; it just broke while sitting and cooking in the oven. Hugely disappointing from a respected and trusted brand, and apparently a known defect, given the other reviews that are posted here--I wish I'd read them more carefully before purchasing this for my mother. There are numerous similar reviews and comments on Corningware's own website about breaks in the lid knob--this is obviously just a bad design. Save yourself the disappointment.
