Don’t Call Me Hero
Too many heterographs. Most striking? 1. Breaks instead of Brakes2. Mother load instead of mother lode.Eliza is slipping. The story was good, and generally well written, but using wrong words is an indication that you need a new proofreader, not just your computer. Ordinarily, Eliza gets five stars, but because of multiple errors, only four are warranted. I’ve read multiple books of hers. Spelling was the worst in this offering.

A well told story.
This is the first time I have read anything by this author. I mostly enjoyed the book, but I have a pet peeve with poor editing. I was distracted many times because of repetitive words, or sentences that made no sense. The story line was engaging and the characters had pretty good depth so I continued to the end. I am glad the resolution was well presented if a bit abrupt. An epilogue would have been appreciated. Even some notes on the benefits of on going treatment for PTSD could have been added. Just a thought.

very good
This tale has a little mystery, a bit of slapstick, a touch of romantic comedy, and a couple that were made for each other. I quite enjoyed the story!

Heartbreaking Heartwarming!
I loved this book even though it was written awhile back and I gave it five stars but I was really bothered by a couple of facts. I just loved the vulnerability of Cassidy and all she went through. Carrying such burdens after her years in service and just trying to exist in a world with no wars. Her strength is trying to get herself better was aspiring to say the least. Enter Julia and the tough tight and on edge personality challenged Cassidy when then see each other again in another town. Julia is the one who is very forward in taking from Cassidy and finding Cassidy never really sure what they had between them. As they developed a non committed relationship, Cassidy was also trying to fit in a new very small and quiet town now on their police force. After her partner uncovers something sinister going on with funds that were not being sent to the town as needed, Cassidy helps out with the investigation and when they come to the truth she is faced with Julia head on. Julia being who she is, defends her father at the expense of Cassidy and in the interim ruins her reputation, the solid case and ultimately Cassidy. The two parts I didn’t like were when they go to cabin to retrieve Cassidy’s bike it says Julia’s father car is there but when they go in cabin no mention of him there even though Julia discovered papers. Also knowing how Cassidy was so vulnerable using what she learned against her was like the ultimate in betrayal. So how could she ever forgive her. Hopefully I will get that answer in the next book. I still loved the story and it was well written. It definitely touched on the heartbreaking feeling readers were feeling.

Wow, this book was awesome! I often lament about how difficult it is to find good lesbian fiction that isn't too tragic but still has depth, and this story was a perfect fit for me. The opening was a little slow, and occasionally I skimmed some of the non-vital description towards the beginning, but the book really found its rhythm once Cassidy arrives in Embarrass.I'll be the first to admit that I love the prickly ice queen trope, and Julia fit the bill. She was such an interesting character-- refined and elegant, cold, and perfectly cognizant of how she appeared to people. She gave me the flutters. Cassidy was also easy to like: a little awkward, a little shy, and a lot of fun once she let her guard down. She was so earnest and imperfect, I fell in love with her, too. While there was some 'good sex can cure all ills!' business, the book does mention that Cassidy has received prior professional help for her PTSD and she is seeing a therapist towards the end of the book. The details felt very well-researched, authentic, and mostly unobtrusive. The characters were all enjoyable people to be around, the sort of folks you'd see in your every day life (save for the villain, who was sort of cardboard and mostly off-screen). The setting was quaint but not kitschy. My only real complaint was that the ending was rushed, and I'd have liked to see some further resolution of the final conflict, but the rest of the book was so good I'd feel guilty for knocking it down a star.If you're looking for a contemporary that's sweet but not too fluffy, this is an excellent choice.

Worth the read
I am fairly new to reading this genre, but I do find this series very enjoyable and completely engaging. I love reading about the complexities of these characters, what they encounter and how they work through them. This is not a typical love story at all, but definitely worth the read.I would like to read a novella of Cassidy and Julia's initial encounter and then after their first sexual encounter from Julia's perspective. I love this couple and hope there's another book on the horizon.

Quick read
3.75 - this was a pretty fast and easy read. I enjoyed the slow burn between the two MCs and their interactions. In fact, I think their dialogue was my favourite part of the book, they worked really well together. The police investigation part of the story was ok, but kind of obvious. Still, I did not read it for that as if been told the MCs made the story, and they did. I cared about them by the end of the book. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Okay - but only okay.
This is a good book as is the follow up - apart from a couple of points which, as someone British, I found really annoying. I'm not sure what the general manner of speech is in America, but in the UK people who call other people "dear" are usually in their 80's and upward. I have an aunt who does it all the time and she is 96! To hear someone like Julia saying it so often (and it is often) feels wrong. As pointed out by another reviewer there are several spelling mistakes in both books. Minor irritations, I agree, but they do detract.I have read other books by this author and I will read more as and when they come out, these are good but not a patch on the Winter Jacket series.

A great story I could not put down
This is a really well written story and deserves all the plaudits it has received. I have served in the Police and also suffered from minor PTSD (though it didn't feel like it at the time) and the descriptions felt spot on. This is one of the best stories I have read in this genre - enjoy it, I did.A very minor point - there are a couple of minor typos, but they did not detract enough from the story to mark it down a star

Very enjoyable
First book I've read by this author, but it certainly won't be the last. Really enjoyable, and the storyline keeps you hooked.

Wonderful
I absolutely love Eliza's fanfiction and decided to give her novels a try. I am so glad I did. Even though I had read the swan queen fanfiction with the character changes this felt like a completely different story. I loved how the relationship grew between Cassidy and Julia it was a perfect example of wonderful character development. I read it in less than 24 hours I didn't want to put it down. Highly recommend this!
