Works great, full power for my Macbook Pro, 10gbps networking, plus plugged in an HDMI 4k Thunderbolt adapter for video to it.

I was dissatisfied with my current Thunderbolt dock for two reasons. First, I acquired a NAS device and needed to get 10Gb ethernet for a fast connection for photo and video editing. The second was that I purchased a new camera that uses CF Express B cards. I now have a reader for those cards but it needs a USB-C port, which I am already using for other purposes. I considered getting a 10Gb ethernet Thunderbolt adapter but that left me without the free USB-C port. Then I discovered the OWC dock. This dock is designed for anyone doing media work. There is a 10Gb Ethernet port built in, AND a CF Express B slot! There is also an SD card slot but the one on my laptop is more convenient. I was worried that this would not work with my laptop but everything worked right out of the box. You do need to install a driver to the 10Gb ethernet but that is not a problem. I love the build of this device and the thoughtful inclusion of each port and feature. I love this thing! I am running this on a Dell Windows 11 laptop and would recommend this device for anyone that is considering a Thunderbolt docking station for a laptop.

I've purchased a lot of stuff from OWC over the years, mostly internals like RAM, and never had any issues with any of it. But this thunderbolt port was disappointing. It worked alright at first, but my MacBook pro always had intermittent issues with it in clamshell mode. Sometimes after a restart, it just wouldn't come back on. I'd have to disconnect the mac from the hub, and restart again - it would restart into recovery mode, and then I'd have to restart it a third time, wait for it to boot, then reconnect it to the hub, then finally close the laptop lid. Quite frustrating. I also had issues with the one button eject, which is a great idea in theory but often didn't work. I'd eject, wait until it was safe to unplug, then unplug only to get errors that some of my drives hadn't actually been ejected. I also had issues running one screen vertically, which is my preferred setup. There were strange scaling issues trying to run in this mode that just weren't workable, which was a problem I hadn't had before this dock. I wasn't sure if this was an issue with the hub or some strange hardware issue with the MacBook pro 16 inch, but I had never experienced it with my 15 inch computer sans hub.But the real blow came about 8 months or so into use, when it just stopped pushing two monitors. It could push to either thunderbolt 3 or to DVI but it wouldn't push to both. It was inconsistent in which one it chose to push for. restart after restart, it would push to the dvi, then to thunderbolt, then back to dvi. I replaced all my cables to see if the problem was somewhere there, but it didn't change anything. Around this time I also started seeing anomalies in screen performance, where certain apps would show blitzed-out screens from time to time. I even wrote to complain to some developers bug depts. before I realized it was likely the hub. I never experienced any of these issues when not connected to the hub.I was under warranty, so I reached out to OWC support for help, thoroughly explained that I knew both monitors and all cables were working, and that the hub was just pushing one video signal at a time. After something like 10 or 12 days they finally responded—I know everyone is supposedly slammed because COVID and I can sympathize—but the response I did get was along the lines of, try making sure your hub is plugged in and replacing all your cables! Let us know if that works!between trying to trouble shoot the issue myself, and waiting for tech support to finally respond, I'd been down to a single screen for weeks, first world problems I know, but it was quite a hit to my productivity. The condescending response from tech support was it for me. I replaced this hub with an Anker PowerExpand Elite, and voila. Both monitors sprang to life immediately. So far, the clamshell issues and glitchy app screen problems have also gone away, as has the scaling issues with running a vertical monitor.I can't give this hub good marks. I just didn't have a good experience with it.

I am a software engineer. I have two of these. Regularly use them at two different desks in my home with Windows based machines and Apple Silicon based devices too. M1 air and M1 Macbook Pro. Just recently used with my M1 Mac mini too for convenience. These just work. Very reliable.I use three external screens with one setup with my Dell XPS 15” and MBPro but I seem to have to use direct HDMI out for my third screen, which I do with my 4K monitor. Please note that the M1 air only supports one external monitor but that is NOT a limitation of this dock. That’s a limitation of MacBook Air M1 and M2.Highly recommend this dock. I have been very happy with the quality and reliability.

The 10G ethernet adapter would not initialize with the supplied OWC branded Thunderbolt 4 cable with my Dell biz laptop.I don't remember the exact model of my laptop. But it has 2 TB4 ports and a 12th gen Intel i7 CPU.The device would show up in Device Manager, but with an error.I tried uninstalling/rebooting/power cycling... all that and nothing helped.The only fix was swapping to the Apple TB4 1M cable that I had. After that, it worked. The Apple TB5 1M cable also works.I dropped one star because of this.

I bought OWC stuff in the old days. Usually solid and useful but not overprices. They continue it with this.Many of these cheaper hubs are powered by the laptop, which is fine, but not what I needed for a semi-permanent installation. This is. It's got it's own power and will power the laptop, as well as connect to a boatload of other devices.It's also compact but not "too compact", which makes it hard to get connections in and out.So pretty pleased.

This dock is slightly scanty on ports for its price range. I can't really complain much, though-- the ports it does get you are extremely fast and stable. The power delivery is strong too, I haven't needed to use an external power adapter for my Macbook Pro even under extremely heavy load. (I'm a software developer.)The 10 gig ethernet is of course its standout feature-- A standalone 10g ethernet to thunderbolt adapter alone costs almost as much as this dock, so this is by FAR the most economical way to both get superfast ethernet and get your other docking needs met!
