Designer Bead Embroidery: 150 Patterns And Complete Techniques

good book but not for embroidery newbies
I like the designs in this book a lot, but it is definitely geared towards people who already have at least intermediate embroidery skills. If you are a beginning embroiderer or are prone to defeatism, this is probably not the book for you. There's a lot that you have to figure out for yourself with minimal guidance, and there are no easier "warm-up" type patterns. This is fine with me - the book doesn't claim to be a beginner's guide, and it's obvious from the excerpts that the designs are rather formal. I give it 4 stars because there's just no good reason the patterns shouldn't be accessible electronically, either with a CD or online. If I ever want to trace a specific design, I'll have to either take the book to Kinko's and have it re-bound with spiral binding, or squish it down against my scanner and hope for the best - kind of annoying.

Love this - must own!
I purchased this book on the recommendation of a Professor for class...and I am thrilled with it! The photos are fantastic of the bead work and it sparks so many different ideas and possibilities. I already knew basic beading techniques when I read this book, so I can't speak about learning from scratch using this book. However, if you would like to add one to your collection you won't be disappointed - especially with the patterns they provide! (You have to get them enlarged, probably at a print shop.) I think it is worth the price!

This book is wonderfully thorough
Kenneth King has translated his skills as a embellisher fantastically into this book. On the first look through, I was in awe of the detail laid out for each style of beading - type, stitches used, materials needed. With a second look through, I noticed the layout for each of the embellishment designs - the amount of enlargement needed for a select size, stitches "coded" ( like in a knitting graph) - very thoroughly thought out presentation. I think I'm left hanging here - this designer should be doing a follow-up book, this is really a beautifully put together book.

BEST !!! BEAD + EMBROIDERY BOOK EVER !!!
This book is FANTASTIC. It has it all: beautiful directions, patterns that can be used as beaded embroidery or basic embroidery. The best photos and descriptions of the beads; no more mystery of sizes and use. Inspiring work, gorgeous designs and the diagrams are top. This book has clear writing which is a plus also. Should he publish another work I will buy it in a second; if he teaches a class I will enroll asap. Great book.

Great Book For Many Occasions!
This is a excellent book for adding beads to just about ANYTHING! All the directions for these patterns are in the book - plus all the examples of the stitches. The entire alphabet, lots of flowers, a wedding section and even Christmas! Also, it has an extensive section on how to add beads to clothes. I love this book!Karen from:Made With Love By Karen in Oregon

Beading with Vintage pearls and beads
This book provides almost everything I need, and unless I skipped a page, I really could have used a size chart for pearls and beads. I was able to find one online, but sometimes holding a pearl to the work in progress is the best way of determining suitability. The book is nicely illustrated and provides a variety of techniques and examples.

Embellishment techniques
I really like this book. I am a fan of Kenneth's from my garment sewing days. It is excellent for that purpose but can also cross-over into the art quilt and surface design genre. Many techniques are actually quite old and are being rediscovered by fiber artists. Kenneth brings everything to life in this book. I just want to know where I can find the left-handed Bernina that appears in one of the photographs! Trust a non-sewing individual to flip the picture and print it backwards!

Yes, one of the good buys
Absolutely nice. I specifically like that the described material (bugles, seed beads, Swarovski(T) crystals plus all those neat sequins) are available in my country, which isn't always the case with other craft books.A word about the patterns: Nicely designed, fairly easy to recreate (if you know how to handle a threaded needle). While reading the book and studying the designs, an idea popped to mind: If you have whitework designs at home, try to do them in seed beads, bugles, crystals, sequins. I'll try to do a sample from "Decorative Flower and Leaf Designs" by Richard Hofmann, ISBN-13: 978-0-486-26869-9 using the instructions from the book discussed here.
