Planetary Herbals DGL, Chewable Tablets, 200 tablets (Pack of 2)

I'm writing mainly to provide additional input regarding the taste of this product for the benefit of others considering making a purchase. Taste is such a subjective thing, but to me it doesn't really taste bad or offensive in any way; it just doesn't necessarily taste good, but that isn't a requirement for me as long as it does what it is supposed to do (it does). If you have ever chewed on real licorice root you know that the "black licorice" taste isn't as strong as in licorice candies, but it has a slightly bitter taste. In this supplement you get a touch of that real licorice root bitterness with the subtle added slightly sweet orange flavoring, so those who describe it as "burnt orange" are pretty much on the mark. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either, and since I don't care for anything overly sweet I do actually prefer this formula to some of the sweeter and more flavorful products. The price is also very good for this pack of 2. For those looking for a more enjoyable taste experience I recommend the Enzymatic Therapy brand of DGL. Their Caramel Creme flavor in particular is pretty tasty, but it was a little too much like candy for me so I plan to stick with this Planetary Herbals formula, which is less expensive.

I was on several Rx acid reducing meds when I learned about DGL, I am now down to 1 Nexium a day for my GERD before it was twice a day plus 300 mgs of Zantac on top of that and a liquid eryped suspension 4 times a day for stomach emptying. Dgl has eased my heartburn and allowed me to eat normal again, I only wished I had discovered it sooner before starting on proton pump inhibitors, I may have not ever needed them. I tried some different brands but really find Planetary Herbs the most palatable the orange compliments the flavor. Just to let you know don't expect it to taste like licorice candy it has a milder flavor and takes a little getting use to but well worth it, I can't say enough about this product I would give it 10 stars if I could. Highly recommended!!!!UPDATE: it's now Nov. 2014 and I am down to Prilosec 40mgs once a day and I chew these tablets only once or twice a day now before a meal along with Dr's Best PepZin GI I still get the occasional reflux (usually after a heavy meal) but heartburn is virtually gone. I just recently had a EDG performed and the news was great, my stomach looked much healthier and there was no sign of the Barrett's esophagus I was previously diagnosed with. I whole heartedly believe that DGL is responsible for this turn around. Whether or not the brand makes a difference I don't know but I do know this one worked for me.

I used this supplement as part of my own "ulcer plan" after suffering from stress/medicine-related ulcers [the direct result of surviving (thankfully!) a ruptured appendix].These lozenges give incredible, instant relief from the burning pain of an active ulcer. I could not have endured any more pain without these; the licorice helps rebuild the integrity of the stomach lining; I would use anywhere from 8-10 per day, 2 at a time, as needed for the burning sensation. Because they are "deglyzzerized" (spelling?), they won't raise blood pressure like regular licorice will.I bought these because the flavor is much milder than  DGL by NOW Foods - Digestive Support (400mg - 100 Lozenges) , which are also very effective, but a little too sweet for me.If you're suffering from an active ulcer, you can find out more about how I conquered mine by visiting my blog, listed on my profile page.Planetary Herbals DGL have a mild, orangy flavor that's not overpowering. Highly recommended!P.S. In my experience, it's best to allow these to dissolve slowly in your mouth, rather than quickly chewing. My guess is that the enzymes in your saliva interact with the licorice to help soothe the stomach.Also, if you have an active ulcer, I learned another tip the hard way--when it starts to burn, quickly drink a large glass of water. You'll be amazed at the instant relief...then get to work dissolving a couple of these lozenges.

Heard about this in a health article, I 've been on nexium for three years, My ulcers were so severe i could not take food down at all, so i was put on nexium the only thing that worked. Recently i developed painful athritus in many joints went to a doctor and found out it was a side effect of prolonged nexium. I had no idea nexium could lead to many this many bad things including cancer and eventual death. The only side effects so far for me have been the painful athritus @38 and severe acne also from nexium and i needed to quit. The problem was one day without it and i'm back to not being able to take food down. I tried this brand dgl 9 chewables a day since my case is so severe, i cant believe how good it works. For those with severe ulcers and major gerd take the 9 a day dosage and it will work. Have been off nexium for 3 weeks for the first time in three years don't let the doctors talk you into taking nexium they make money off you by prescribing death when they damn well know dgl works with no side effects!This works great to stop acid reflux but has caused my ED verified through my doctors research. My doctor said my 8 month use of licorice severely decreased the male hormone that helps with erections. Please be careful it helped one part of my life buit now caused an even bigger problem which seems to be permanant now!my doctor says it may be irreversable!

I ordered this quite a while ago. I tried a couple of the chewable tablets and hated it so much that I put both bottles away. A really bad aftertaste, worse than when chewing on them.Then today I looked at reviews and most are pretty much in favor of them and will try again. I have mild reflux and a hernia so I'm hoping that they'll help and not go to Nexxium as a rescue resource on bad days. I'll write a review in 2 weeks, which should show some improvement or not.
