Just what my booty ordered!
I recently upgraded to a new pair of quad skates (Bont) and tossed on really nice outdoor wheels and faster bearings. I tested the new set up out a few times around the cul-de-sac I live on and was really happy with everything. It was very different than what I was used to - the skates were heavier and the bearing/wheel combo was much faster than my previous set, but I was still really excited about taking them out for a real spin. I was skating on a jogging path and stopped for a minute to change the song on my phone. I didn't notice a patch of very fine gravel next to me until it was too late. I fell so hard on my butt that I couldn't move for several minutes. Thankfully, my husband was with me and helped me up and back to the car. It was such a bad fall that it's been almost two weeks and I still have enough pain in my glutes and upper hamstrings to make going up stairs a trial. After the fall, I decided it was time for me to break down and see if there was some sort of padding solution to protect my poor booty in the event that I fell again - especially until the new skates feel like a second pair of feet. I purchased three different pairs of padded shorts. One pair only protected the coccyx, which wouldn't have helped me at all in this fall. Another had padding everywhere, so they were super bulky (since I'm a little chunky, the last thing I needed was more bulk). This pair of BenKen shorts are absolutely perfect. I still can't go out and skate, but I do suspect these might be a bit bulky under most of my shorts/pants, but they are thick enough that I could also wear them by themselves. I can definitely put them on under a pair of loose fitting yoga pants. They aren't so bulky that they limit range of motion, but the padding is legit. I wish I'd been wearing them two weeks ago!!

Flexible fit
The media could not be loaded. Nice fit! Very well padded and comfortable to move around in. Wore these recently on a boarding trip and I won't be going any more without padding!

I may never roller skate without wearing these shorts!
Learning to roller skate for the first time as a (youthful!) middle aged woman. As such, I was already outfitted with all the expected PPE (helmet and wrist/elbow/knee guards). My skating instructor suggested I get some padding for my tailbone before I take a fall that might derail my active lifestyle for weeks. I’d say this was worth every penny from the very first fall. Once I get over the jarring shock of landing square on my tush, I realize that I am totally okay. The downside is they’re hot as hell. They’re also pretty conspicuous under clothing. I tend to wear them over yoga pants, then tie a shirt over my waist, so my vanity adds to the sweatiness factor. I’ve actually purchased a whole new wardrobe of dresses to disguise them. However, when I meet another new skater, or a reluctant would-be skater, I immediately lift my dress to show off and sing the praises of these padded shorts.

Comfortable
I bought these shorts for a different reason than most people - they are being used to give me some extra padding like I'd love to have in a seat cushion. I drive a little more than most, work from home almost 100% of the time, and am relatively thin for my age. Being thin can make a guy feel pretty sore after sitting for a long time. I've had these shorts for a few days now and really love them. If this helps you in your size selection, I'm 6 ft tall and weigh 180 pounds. I bought the large and it fits decently. It's a little loose at the lower end, but I can live with that. It does make me wonder if the medium may have been the better option, though.

Incomplete Protection
Pros: This product does a good job of protecting your rear end and your lower back. It securely fits and the velcro belts make it adjustable.Cons: It doesn't protect your hips at all! It you fall on your side there is zero protection. All the belts and the zipper are a lot of work when you stop to go the bathroom. The sizes run small. I am a 6' 185lbs male and the XL feels tight on me.This might work for snowboarding because you generally fall on your rear and lower back, but if you miss a rail toe side your hips hit the rail. You need hip protection.I wouldn't recommend this product. They need to incorporate hip protection.

Not sure
I'm 5'4/5'5 and around 96 lbs... the small fits well over my jeans. It's maybe a bit loose if I wear them as shorts, because the butt seam is a couple inches too long for a skinny person like me. If benken made an xs I would order that, but over jeans it's perfect. It doesn't get in the way of my skating. The material appears to be high quality, and I've skated in them 5 times so far. No rips or snags. The material is like thick spandex.Padding: I am a complete beginner. The first time I fell while skating slowly over asphalt with protruding cracks, I didn't feel anything. However in my 4th session skating, I fell 3 times within an hour on asphalt and cement (while going fast and not knowing how to stop) and I felt the pain and impact. I was able to get up and continue, but up to 1-2 days after, when I sat down on the hard floor in my room on my tailbone and rocked a backward, I felt that my tailbone area had a little pain, enough to bother me. I felt fine sitting on other surfaces like chairs, etc.People are telling me that this is normal, and that a butt protective pad can't protect you 100%, it just cushions you... so I don't know how this compares to other pads. Three days later now my tailbone is fine, but I'm afraid of falling again.I will update my review when I have done more sessions.

Saved my butt!
I'm still a beginner at snowboarding. The first time I went, I really ended up hurting my tailbone. So bad that we were only able to snowboard 1 out of the 3 days we originally planned. Got smart and invested in these pants and they really made a difference. Went snowboarding for 4 or 5 days and never had my tailbone hurt.

Trusted reviews and true to size!
True to size and fitted very well with some stretch allowance. There are adjustable velcro straps on both sides to help tighten the front of the waist area. I did not find them overly bulky and pretty discreet under loose clothing. Sufficiently padded to protect the coccyx and lower back but not so much the hips/thigh but i have some meat on my lower half for that. I use these for added security while I learn rollerskating outdoors.
