Foster Grant Liberty Rectangular Reading Glasses

Great for menus in dark restaurants!

I bought two of these and the two are very different. I bought a tortoise shell (magnification = 2) and they are super bright. I really like these glasses. The light does come through the tortoise shell laterally to the eye. I put a small piece of electrical tape to help with the glare. It’s not too bad. Some opaque paint may work better but be sure you don’t paint them open or shut.The BAD is the black frame version (magnification = 1.5). The lights on these aren’t nearly bright enough and other signs suggest they are either replicas or an older version. I swapped batteries with the tortoise just to verify that if the light was dim due to the batteries being weak but they weren’t. The black frames are probably an older version and pretty worthless as far as a light. The writing on the frames look different too. I’m suspicious and sending the black ones back, but keeping the tortoise!Update: the manufacturer says the Black frame I received was an older version of the glasses. So be aware that one vendor is selling the older, dimmer version.

I love these things....I bought my first pair awhile back at Walgreens, but this amazon price is better. My first pair (I've just reached the age to where I need readers) I bought as a bit of a novelty with the lights, and found that "HEY, these things really help".I flew my Mom in for a visit and she loved them...so much, in fact that she 'accidentally' left for home with them and I had to get a new pair. I just replaced that replacement pair with this new set as that the others broke from sitting on them in my shorts more than a few times.I use the lights a lot and so far, I've never had a need to change the batteries yet, so they seem to be pretty efficient on the lights.Anyway, of all the readers I like these the best, and a lot of my friends have bought these after seeing mine. They are really good when trying to work inside an old pinball machine you're trying to restore too!

Awesome! I can see all the little details for closeup work on small objects. LED lighting is very bright, each light is able to be independently turned on and off each side. They were a little tight on my temples, but I wear them down further on my nose when I read anyways, and they work fine. They have plenty of light for my needs. I thought I ordered the 2.5 power, but I guess I may have hit the 1.5. I may order another pair later on. The 1.5 power works for most of my reading.The batteries are a bit tricky to change. If you remember to place the cover over most of "both" batteries with the battery cover before pressing the battery cover down and sliding it forward, it will close easily.So far I like these enough to order a second pair for smaller print.

I bought a pair of these glasses at a retail store years ago and they were great -- I used them for years with no problems, until I broke them by mistake when traveling. My local store no longer carries them, so I was pleased to find the same glasses on Amazon. When I first got them they seemed fine, but a few months later when I went to replace the batteries I realized that they are not at all like the ones I had. I used to be able to simply slide the battery compartment open and switch the batteries. With these, it is nearly impossible to get the battery compartment open and closed -- I've had to use a knife and really work at it. I'm sure they will break soon during one of these battery changes, or I will be unable to open or close them altogether.This is the first time I have encountered what I assume is a counterfeit product on Amazon. I have never taken the time to write a review, but in this case, I wanted to warn others. I would not recommend buying these glasses from this vendor. If you can find the real Foster Grants (or another quality brand that makes similar glasses), they are great to have for night reading.

They work as advertised. The batteries are hard to find and pricy but the lens are good and the lights are helpful in the darks holes where I do medical mission work. The batteries do last for a least 10 days of hard intermittent use. I've proved it several times. The lens frames is a little fragile if you get tackled while wearing them or sit on them.
