I am a fan of Kenyatta Gilbert's "Black Preaching" and it gives me a sense of more security. I was introduced to this book while in seminary and I have decided to keep the book for future reference. If you are looking for a little assistance with hermeneutics and exegeses, along with several others on the same topic this one will get you going in the right direction.

Book for Historians, Preachers, Pastors, Prophets, Priest and Sages
This is a must read for all pastors and preachers ,especially those who feel called to prophetic preaching and ministry. Dr. Gilbert is Homiletics Professor at Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, DC and I had him for the course "African-American Prophetic Preaching." Excellent course. Excellent book. Gentle read. Explains prophet, priest, sage and other dynamics at play in prophetic preaching, as well as historical significance of different periods in African American preaching.

Finding Our Voices
This book is a fresh and creative look at African American preaching. It is a short, but powerful and refreshing read. Dr. Gilbert is a bright young homilectical mind for his generation. Especially relevant is Gilbert's discussion on the seven personas of African American preachers. This book should have a long shelf life as a teaching tool for trivocal preaching and it will be a rich resource for ministers of the gospel.

This is an excellent book - very well suited for use as a text book on homiletics. Dr. Gilbert certainly did his homework and it paid off in a document that can serve both as a primer for the new preacher and a guide for the more seasoned minister of God.

Regaining the role of the messenger and message
Gilbert's book explained the responsibility of the preacher's by identifying three elements of the sermon. The first is prophetic, the second is priestly and the third is sagely. His message empowers the preacher to regain the role of the preacher's purpose in delivering God's message.
