Number One
Top Catherine Cookson novel. Second (or maybe 3rd) time of reading having read it when young (I’m 72) and probably in my 40s.... I have read many of her novels and enjoyed them all. Maybe having a Geordie Mum from Byker, Newcastle might have had something to do with it..... However, this is way up there, grabbing you from the first to the last word and teaching us some of our history as well making us thankful we live in this era and not back then despite the things we still need to make headway in. The effect of your writings at Catherine lives on....👏👏

Fabulous read!
This is the first Catherine Cookson I’ve ever read and it won’t be the last. Cookson is a master story teller. No wonder so many of her books made it on to our TV screens!

A Pleasant Light Read
An enjoyable read showing how humans struggled to thrive years ago. If you were rich it was a different matter.

The Dwelling place
A really emotional story. The amount of problems overcome by Cissie are amazing and for her to finally find happiness is wonderful.Catherine Cookson was a brilliant story teller.

One of my favourite love stories
In The Dwelling Place, Cookson draws characters with vivid clarity, describing how through one terrible event, two people from opposite ends of the social scale begin the journey towards a middle ground where they can find each other. Her evocation of two worlds in the Victorian era is beautifully done. Her writing is smooth and natural.Love it.
