The Know-How of Cartooning (Dover Art Instruction)

4 out of 5 stars as they left in the mostly blank pages for practice drawing. Without those, this would be a very slim book - I'd almost suggest combining it with the very useful Hultgren book on animal drawing. But I guess they left the book in its original form for nostalgia purposes. You'll recognize allusions to characters such as from Dumbo and other pictures Hultgren was associated with. Good basic reference for not only character animation but also layout and backgrounds, as well as comic books and other cartoon illustration.

I love Ken Hultgren's Disneyesque style of drawing so I had to have this when it came back in print. I'd only seen bits and pieces of it on social media posts and the like. It is a short book with the author's basic advice on cartooning in an animation style, so don't expect a highly detailed, in-depth look at cartooning with tons of how-to examples, like his book on drawing animals (highly recommended). It's just a neat, basic introduction, but if you're a fan of the artist - it's a must have.
