This volume is made much more coherent and interesting by the strategic inclusion the three preacher specials which develop backstories for Herr Star and ****face. The inclusion of Herr Star's backstory makes his arc tragic and thus makes him a fairly compelling villain for the reason of the interestingness of his motives. Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy's story hits a lull as the consequences of Cassidy's betrayal and his feelings for Tulip as well as Jesse's seeming death slows that development. The apex conflict between Herr Star, the Saint of Killers, and the background development of ****face all particularly work and bring the series to a high point. The only included part of was 80s action movie parody backstory for the TC and Jody seems oddly placed in this collection and sort of distracting from the main narrative and from crucial characterization of side-characters. This, however, is a stronger volume of Preacher. Dillion's artwork continues to work well here, and the subtle shifts Dillion does for genre considerations on the special issues works well.

The dark middle act
This is the big turning-point in the bigger story where all the s**t hits the fan, and suddenly everything is much, much worse for everyone, and you're left wondering how it can all come back from this. PREACHER is one of the great archetypal stories of our age, and to compare this volume with another of those, this one is pretty much the EMPIRE STRIKES BACK of PREACHER. Jesse's cut off from the group, Tulip is a mess, and Cassidy - priorly everyone's favorite lovable rogue comic-relief character - suddenly becomes a hell of a lot less likable, and more three-dimensional and interesting as a result (basically the best thing you can do to a character you've used to win your readers over, IMO). Great stuff!

Good stuff. Well written, excellent art.
Yeesh, whoever wrote this is frakin nuts. Has religious and family hangups. It is GREAT! Highly recommend for distraction from the news. At least you know what to expect from graphic novel bad guys.

Best Graphic Novel of All Time
From the very first issue, Preacher captivated me in a way few graphic novels have. I read every single issue of this story within a matter of weeks, I could not get enough. The story follows Jesse, a preacher in Texas, who gets invoked with a spirit that may make him the most powerful being in existence. The characters are beautifully flawed, the themes of religion, right and wrong, are mixed with Movie Westerns and Secret Societies. Once you start Preacher, you are in it for the whole 75 issues. You will be glad you went on this journey! The hardcovers are beautiful and a must-have for you to enjoy reading over and over again.

Best Comic Ever & Great New Edition
DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN PREACHER! Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon at their very BEST; the whole series is amazing and by far the best comic I've read!I first read this when it came out, and even bought the original graphic novels as they did too. But this set is worth buying the series again essentially for the third time. The colors are beautiful, the weight of the books feel perfect, and I love the feel of the pages.

Needless to say that the entire series of Preacher is hands down one of the best comics ever created
It's hard to review each book standalone... Needless to say that the entire series of Preacher is hands down one of the best comics ever created. At times hard-hittingly violent. Always funny as hell. Knowingly twisted in such a delicious way. But the thing that always sticks with me is the series' strong moral core. Jesse and Tulip are pretty much one of the best couples you'll ever meet.Buy the series. Read it. Love it. Read it again.I can't recommend it highly enough.
