Henry Halem, right hand man to Harvey Littleton - still knows his glass.
It is the book for hot shop glass. Henry (whom I've been able to be around recently - beat the pants off all of us on a "fastest cup" hotshot competition) wrote a great resource book. It is an excellent jumping off point, not a super in-depth analysis of all things related to hot glass. That being said, if you don't have it, you're only hurting yourself.

Building a hot shop? Start here...
Bought my first copy of this book directly from Henry while he was still teaching at Kent State, sometime in the mid 90's. Built two studios using the designs in this book as a starting point. How to build a car kiln or a glory hole, batch formulas, tools, equipment - all covered in detail. If you are building a hot shop this is where you start.

Detailed Description of Vitreous Painting
This book came highly recommended from seasoned vitreous painters and I know why - it contains techniques, tools and some history. the illustrations are very helpful. I read this cover to cover. This is as close to a classroom as you can get.

As the title says these are "notes". Do not ...
As the title says these are "notes". Do not expect a coherent story, but it has a ton of rarely found wealth of knowledge and methods about glass making.

The only book you need
This book is very comprehensive and covers many techniques in different formes of artwork. It is maybe too broad and doesn't focus enough. It is however a valued addition to my collection.Definately a reference as opposed to a 'glossy'.

Good resource.
Well written, readable, and very comprehensive - includes a lot of useful information. The graphics and illustrations are especially well done. Plans for annealing ovens and various conversion tables are included. References to suppliers are helpful, especially with web addresses.

Three Stars
Has some good info, but almost nothing on electrical wiring.
