VELUXOriginal Roof Window Blackout Blind for MK08, Grey, with Grey Guide Rail

This is as advertised and the price is much less than buying from Velux. Now installed the product does it's job, no light gets through, it all fits together well, moves smoothly and looks good. The thing to be careful about is the installation. We were told by various sources that it would be easy to fit. The instructions are purely pictures and not always easy to understand. Having the right tools is important. It would be useful to have two people doing the job. I fitted two identical blinds on my own. The first took about an hour and was OK apart from one screw hole I put into the wrong place. The second took about half an hour due to knowing the process. Getting into the right position to be able to do the different aspects of the work isn't straightforward. Fitting some of the pieces together is quite fiddly, some trial and error until it came right, needs at least two hands. We have another one to do which will require being up a ladder. I don't fancy that, don't think I would be safe, will be getting professional to do it. You have to be able to reach the top of he window to pull the blind down with your hand, if this is not possible you can buy a pole with a fitting to pull it down but I don't know how well they work.

A little on the higher price side but they fitted perfectly and complete blackout for the window above our bed which was perfect.

But no more!These blinds were easy to order and simple to install.They are a perfect fit for the frame and gives a smooth slide to close and open, aswell as excellent blackout even in day time light.Should have bought these years ago!

Very easy to install. The item that arrived was about 6cm too long for my window (my own fault - GGL MK04 is not the same as GGL M04!!) but I managed to trim the side rails with a hacksaw and take up the slack in the cords. It fits well and there is no light bleeding in at all when it's closed, despite my slight hack job and is definitely a lot better than the third party blind I had in previously :)For anyone interested, there is a little metal bracket inside the end of each side rail that can be slid out and placed into a "trimmed" siderail; so cutting the siderails to fit a shorter window is actually quite straightforward. The most difficult bit was taking up the slack in the cords: on the clip that the cords are attached to, there are two indents on the "wrong" end of each clip; so you can loop the cord around the clip a few times and then lock it in place using those indents. Time will tell if this is a long-term solution, but the blind works fine and the cords stay in place nice and taught under the guiderails.

I wasn't sure whether I'd go for the OEM blinds at pretty hefty additional cost, but I thought I'd play safe since this is very visible in the room...Upon opening the packaging it looks very good quality, with the runners matching exactly with the existing window and other blinds which were fitted on other windows.READ THROUGH INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING OR PULLING ANYTHIN APART!!!- real important or you could pull apart things which will make installation much much more difficult!!The instructions have no words but fairly easy to follow basically:-- Pushing in top blind section until it clicks on mounts which should already be present on the velux. (If they're not present, there's a bag with a ? on it which provides two substitute clips. I didn't realise this at first and was scratching my head what to do with these at the end!) I had to give it a bit of a gentle bang to get it to clip into place. DONT take off the red bits yet!- Using the provided buttom clips, screw those into place using provided torx screws and torx screwdriver. (Note not to use the clips I mentioned above which are bigger and use the 2-3 philips screws in a bag)- Take the side metal runners and slide them in each side. Before sure they're slide firmly into place at the top before you clip them at the bottom. Hint if you get it wrong, unscrew the torx screw on the bottom clips rather than trying to force the thing out of the clip and potentially breaking the clip.- Once in place, screw the torx screws into the holes along the runners on each side. The torx screw driver should be adequate to screw into the velux wood without need to drill holes.- Pull off the red circles to unroll the cords and then pull out the grey plastic cordends and pull them down to the bottom clips. You'll need to gently stretch them for a moment at you get them to clip into place.- Now at the top take off the red retaining clips at the top and you should be able to pull the blind down- done!Installation took me about 20-30 minutes with careful reading of the instructions. Once done I'm very happy with the results.At £73 vs around £40 for a non-OEM one it's a hefty difference in price. However seeing the quality of this product, and the finish the materials, it's a premium I'm happy to pay for.I'll see over time and update in due course as I use these...

As you'd expect from velux, a good product

Bought for GGL-6 windows (had to look at another web site to understand the evolution of velux frame sizes over the year to work out what I needed - shame that information isn't on this page).Warning: Do not pull apart the mounting brackets from their plastic framework until you've looked at all the instructions.There's air-fix style plastic moulds, some bits you throw away, others you use to get the perfect positioning of the brackets and THEN pull the excess plastic off once in place.You get 4 small grey mounts which you attach to your inner window frame first, which come with little spacers attached and a L or R marking on the reverse. So really, if you take 5 minutes to work out the instructions, your life is going to be really easy! As it says, don't detach the red things till the end. I found that on one of my windows, the cable that you stretch down to the bottom bracket was easily done, but not on the other, I had to use quite a bit of force and thought the thing was going to break, but it didn't.These blinds don't go beyond the bottom of the window, so there'll still be some tiny streaks of sunlight, but I could now sleep in my attic in the brightest day without a mask, so does the job very well.You get nearly all the kit you need to do the job, but you will need either an old-school high school compass or hole-making thingy to make a small hole to help the mounting screws go in easily. You will also need a phillips headed screwdriver.Recommended.

UPDATEThe material used for these blinds is much thinner than the ones I replaced, which were 25+ years old, there is a very slight ruckling effect at the vertical edges, I assume due to the thinness of the material, not sure they will last as long as the previous ones, have contacted Velux to see what they say.I was quite worried buying these, as they are 50% more expensive from Velux, so I thought these can’t be genuine. The seller emailed me and confirmed they are genuine. So I ordered them, YES they ARE genuine VELUX. Follow the instructions exactly and it’s a piece of cake. The only difficulty I had was attaching the cord to the bottom bracket, one blind was rather tight, but I took my time and it worked fine. The second blind I ordered ( have two identical windows ) had a slightly longer cord, so was much easier. They really do look the business, so smart and Totally blacks out All light. Can’t recommend them high enough, IMO it’s not worth getting Imitation Velux blinds, the quality of these is outstanding. The packaging was 100% secureSpare screws are Included, not that you will need them, plus new top brackets are also included, just in case the ones on the window are broken or missing.....comes with a small spline screwdriver for the special screws, which makes screwing them in a breeze....I fitted 2 x GGL6 black blackout blinds.

Fitted perfectly and very easy to instal.Does the job and looks good.

Photos show light beige colour.Well designed and acceptably easy to install. You will want your own torx t10 driver because the one supplied is a bit flimsy.I installed two - in one case the plastic clips were already fitted to the window frame but for the other I had to do it myself with the supplied clips. It was not that tricky to work out. Can be completely and comfortably done in under 30 minutes per blind assuming you have good access. If you are up a ladder then the step of clipping in the main roller unit on the larger width blinds might be a challenge.If they last 10 years or more then I would consider them good value but at this stage it’s too early to tell.

Great product from Velux - had struggled to find the correct size for a replacement blind for our window which the original is from the late 80’s but found clear and concise details of the exact blind to order - this was to be taken to France so couldn’t afford to get it wrong !Thankfully fitted like a glove - although had to get a professional to fit it as fiddly - a great nights sleep followed . Thank you .

Love this velux blackout blind. Really easy to install and looks very stylish and is very effective blackout.
