So much easier
We originally sealed our buckets with the standard lids that come with them, and I was personally unable to get those lids on even with applying my entire 150+ pounds on top of them, and even with trying to use a mallet to bang them down. Fortunately, I was able to push these on by myself. It was just hard enough that I'm confident of the seal but not so difficult that I couldn't do it. And the twisting lids are great for access. I can twist them tightly and feel confident of the seal and still get enough leverage to open it back up as needed. With the regular bucket lids, I was basically just a prepper with a supply of food that I could break into... if I HAD to. That was NOT my goal. Now I can be the Homesteader I was aiming for and actually rotate through my rice and beans. I can finally use the buckets to save my harvest (or buy more cheaply in bulk) and still actually use the food that's in them. My only complaint is the price. At roughly $10 per lid (before inflation), that's more than I paid for the food-safe buckets and a lot more than I'm saving by buying in bulk and/or growing my own. But at least buying a bunch of them at once like this brought the price down a little. And now that I have them, at least that's one less expense to worry about for the future. But I had to wait about a year before I could justify the expense. I guarantee they don't cost anywhere near that much to manufacture. The markup is insane.

Worth the Work to Use Here's How
These are the greatest thing ever. Some people write the lids "don't fit". Understand they are VERY tight and so are not easy to install the rims onto a 5 gallon bucket but I'll tell you how...1. First wash the bucket, and make sure the lip is nice and smooth with no cuts or chips with will leak air.2. Make sure no plastic burrs are left frm the casting of the id on the mating surfaces. You may need to cut a "sprue" off flush to allow the lid to seat. Screw the the lid into the rim to make sure it will mate flush.3. Put the rim on top of the bucket. Start pushing down at one point close to you, then work up both sides of the bucket pushing HARD on the rim to get the lip of the bucket to snap into the valley of the lid where the gasket is.4. When you get the top, there will be a bulge in the rim. It looks too big. PUSH HARD to snap the bulge into place. It will go with a big pop. If you can't do it with your hands put a big book on top and then sit on it. If it it easy it is broken!5. To install the screw top, first make sure the lid is clean and no crumbs are under the O ring gasket.6. Make sure the seal gasket is completely seated around the upper surface of the lid.7. Spin the lid backwards (CCW) until you hear the threads engage and the lid sinks a bit. Then turn CW to tighten.8. Once it is starts to tighten, use your fist to bump the lid on the ends of the "X" a few time to make sure it is seated, the turn again a bit, Repeat until the lid will not tighten any more.9. Don't forget to put in oxygen absorber and desiccant befoe you put on the lid!NOTE: Some people who find this difficult might like to use a lubricant, but it must be food grade and not something that will decompose. A bit of glycerine ( 1 or 2 drops) on the lip of the bucket would help, but now your hands are slippery...

Easy access to my food storage buckets.
The concept to access my flour, rice , and whole grains easy it so much easier. The one thing I noticed it the rubber gasket seems to come off and sometimes it is hard to unscrew the top.

Good price and great product
I use buckets for storing different wood chips for smoking meats. These lids are weatherproof, but proof, and moistureproof, and give me quick access to the wood chips. I also use them for storing grains for my homebrewing, and they keep the grains bugproof, rodentproof, and dry. I highly recommend these lids for anyone with 5-7 gallon buckets wanting to do something similar to what I'm doing.
