Amazing Aftermath to Mt. St. Helens Eruptions
Geologists make Amazing observations in the aftermath of eruption!! The authors do a great job here, clearly & carefully presenting the results of catastrophic events upsetting many long held geological beliefs. The hard evidences are there to be seen before our eyes!! This book is readable by everyday folks, as well as providing "meat" for the professional. Steve Austin is currently on my Hit Parade of geologists & authors. The book itself has an attractive format & is very well made. I'm really glad I spent the money on it.For anyone interested in Geology / Earth Science -I also recommend his texts & DVD on the Grand Canyon. These are real eye openers on the cutting edge of science. The DVD you will be wanting along with this book is entitled: "Mt. St. Helens : Explosive Evidence For Catastrophe". Invite some friends over & break out the popcorn.

This will change your dating style!
Dating - in Geology at least- relies on an often stated presupposition: That whatever happended in the past happended slowly and at a constant rate. Well, things for dating are about to change as geologists take on board "catastrophic" events. One such "catastrophic" event is the Mount St Helens explosion which occurerd in the 80's. Geologists have now been able to carefully document the changes that occured with the eruption of Mount St Helens. What they found will fundamentally change the way we look at geological dating. In this book on the events following the eruption of Mount St Helens, the authors carefully show how a catastrophic event can cause sedimentation and erosion previously only assumed as possible over very long time periods. This is a must read for those interested in geological dating.

Excellent
I was very impressed with this book. In short compass, Morris confronts a number of old-earth arguments with observable facts from the 1980 Mt. St. Helens eruption - hundreds of feet of Grand Canyon type strata deposited in a matter of days; canyons cut deep into bedrock with the release of waters from Spirit Lake; the first stages of possible coal formation begun and could result in coal if Spirit Lake were covered by lava from a new explosion. And we Christians have to be the ones to apologize for faith in creationism and catastrophism (Great Flood) when the observable facts are on our side?? I also thought the photography, design, and quality of the book were excellent. A very beautiful and thought-provoking book.

Wonderful insight into an act of God
This book tells of the things happening on the mountain after the dust settled. I am amazed at God's providence in the aftermath of an apparent disaster. Good and marvelous things do come out of the bad because that is the way HE works. I know that the God of the universe is in complete charge and will make things right. It was HIS plan in the beginning. The author got all the details and the pictures were marvelous as well. I would like to get more books by this person.

New geological thought
I was at a museum and saw a display that talked about how the Mount St. Helens eruption and after-effects had many interesting and surprising results, showing how such dramatic events can result in geological structures than many would think would take millions of years to form. I was interested in learning more about this, and this book delivered. The book has many great color photos and diagrams and is careful about precise science (it's written by two Ph.D.s) while clearly defining terms so that the lay reader can easily follow.

Mt. St. Helens - Grand Canyon comparison
This book is a wonderful explanation of the forces that can happen when a volcano erupts and how it can alter the landscape - land and water - in a very short time. As a Christian, it explains to me how the Grand Canyon could have been formed by the waters receding after Noah's flood in the book of Genesis (the Bible). I count it as one of my most valuable tools as a homeschool science teacher.
