does it have pockets?  is it truly A line or is it just cut straight up and down with elastic at the top?

Yes it does have pockets. Not very deep but you can put small items in there. It is A-line. Fits really nice with the elastic in the back and smooth in the front. Wear it high waist style.

I'm 5 7 and weigh 175... What size would you suggest?

Depends on the size you normally wear. There's a lot of stretch in the band of the skirt so if you wear an XL, you can get away with a XL. I normally wear a 2X and based on the reviews played it safe and ordered one size too big and it still fits, but it has a little extra room. The skirt doesn't fall off of me either.
