It works, my only problem is no rain
You put this nice looking rain gauge outside, set the wireless transponder anywhere and you're good to go. it measures rainfall to two decimals, empties itself, and records cumulative since the last clear, and I think it's 9 days you can scroll back to see daily rainfall. My only problem is that in the two months I've had it, it rained twice, once just .08 inch. I want a downpour, guess I'll have to wait until spring. It also tells temperature I think both indoor/outdoor (not sure, I've got another toy for that). My advice is that esp. for the price this is a very nice gadget. just four stars on durability because I haven't had it long. Reserving my judgment on that one.Update: I took it in for the winter, carefully removing the batteries and storing it gently. Spring came, and it didn't work. I tried this that and the other, finally calling the company, executing the major resets and finally, because it was less than a year old, they replaced it without hesitation. They did suggest I put a can over it in the winter, which I will do, rather than bring it in.So I'm nervous about longevity, but very pleased with the customer support.

Good product, but technical flaws
I originally bought this product in August 2009, set it up (with screwing and unscrewing way too many tiny screws) in the backyard. They linked up and worked trouble free for a year other than a few rare times it would loose the rain gauge signal when it got real cold outside-I used the batteries that came with the unit which don't work very well below 35F, but any colder than that and your not measuring rain anyways, as long as they don't freeze on you, as soon as it warmed up some outside it would pick the signal back up. Then this past August 2010 we had a rain storm and it didn't pick up any rain-a spider had got inside despite the screens and locked the teetering rain cup in place. Also that same week I replaced the batteries on the main unit, so while I was cleaning out the spider web I replaced the batteries on the rain gauge as well. As many other reviewers have noted that's when this unit seems to crap out. I tried every sequence of putting batteries in the different units and using the reset buttons, but I couldn't get the main unit to pick up the rain gauge, thermo sensor was fine. Then it randomly started working one day and then nightfall came and it quit again. I just bought a new one (same model) and I noticed this one seems to be a little better built inside the rain gauge and there's only 2 screws to change the batteries now. I also used lithium batteries this time. I set it up and the main unit picked up the sensors within 30 seconds. So time will tell with this one but overall its well worth the $45. Compared to other wireless rain gauges this one seems to have the best overall reviews, hopefully this one lasts me more than a year!**January 2012 Update**Unit is still working great with no problems at all a year and a half later. Never lost signal last winter even with -10F temps. Just replaced the batteries in the main unit and it was able to find the sensors. Batteries in rain gauge still original ones I put in 17 months ago!

I give it five stars for the performance given the price.
I have two of these systems. This one that I bought from Amazon for my Dad three years ago, and another one I bought for myself at a local Academy store about six years ago or more. Both of these systems are still working. Battery access is more difficult for my older model because there are a bunch of little annoying screws that must be removed to replace batteries on the rain gauge. But my Dad's newer version does not have all the screws -- so they improved this feature. As for performance, battery life is good (about nine months to a year). Also, I know the wireless range for the rain gauge is really good, as my Dad had his located on the far side of his lot for a while. The rain gauge also seems pretty accurate compared to local weather reports, and my outside temperature gauge also seems accurate. On the other hand, my Dad's outside temperature gauge seems a couple of degrees or so off. But I give this system 5 stars for the price and value. If you want a professional-quality system, then you can find them on Amazon but they are considerably more expensive. These Oregon Scientific systems hold up well and I think work very well for the price. My Dad's previous LaCrosse system (on the other hand) only lasted about a year and half before it went belly up, and it did not have a rain gauge.

Awesome Rain Gauge!
It is digital which is wonderful. It shows the amount of rain collected, temperature outside, the history of the rain collected and probably other things! One of the really best things, is you set it outside (we have ours on our patio table) and it will empty itself every 24 hours. When it empties at midnight, you will see the history in the morning and see the new amount everyday. It’s easy, accurate and very high tech. We keep the inside monitor near my husband’s recliner so he can glance at it when he wants.

REPLACEMENT ITEM
I PURCHASED THIS WIRELESS RAIN GUAGE TO REPLACE A PREVIOUS ITEM THAT HAD STOPPED WORKING, SSOME FEATURES WERE BETTER THAN THE OLD ONE AND SOME WERE NOT QUITE AS GOOD, SO FAR IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING WELL. DELIVERY WAS QUITE SLOW COMPARED WITH OTHER ITEMS I HAVE ORDERED BUT I THINK IT CAME FROM AMERICA AND WAS ORDERED QUITE CLOSE TI CHRISTMAS.
