Create your own treasure hunt for your kids!
I will do almost anything to get my grandsons, ages 5 and 8, to play outside. In addition, I like activities that stimulate them, keep them focused, and also provide some sort of learning opportunity (yeah, that "teacher" in me never dies). My husband and I used to create complicated treasure hunts for our daughters when they had friends over, and this little kit provides the means without having to take a lot of time to produce the same sort of activity. The kit comes with a rudimentary compass, a tiny notepad, 4 Treasure Pods, 4 Charms, something called coordinate strips and instructions. I got another compass so that both children would have one and set about creating the "treasure hunt" for them. Honestly, their map skills and orienteering weren't so good, but they are getting better as we help them learn basic N, E, W and S directions and we write pretty detailed maps. Theirs are very basic, and they prefer following ours to creating their own, but I think that will come in time. We bury the little "pods" with candy, coins or other clues, and then give them a map to follow (along with a garden trovel and rake for digging), and send them on their way. They really enjoy finding the treasures and following the instructions. It's even more fun when you let them out at night with flashlights! It does require a bit of adult supervision, but they are doing pretty well now. We'll expand on it in time. The boys recently joined Boy Scouts and this is a great skill set for them to develop. I like geocaching myself, and this is a fun introduction!

A great way to teach compass and map reading as well as map making. Educational!
My son loved doing this backyard treasure hunt. So, you put the trinkets in the pods and then hide them throughout your yard. You can dig them into the ground but we did not. There is a little shovel included on the bottom of the compass but it is not that big nor strong. I just hid the pods like I would an Easter egg. I then drew out my map using the grid paper that is provided using the compass to mark down which direction in the yard I went to hide the pods. The kit comes with four of the pods, four trinkets, grid paper for drawing maps, a compass with a shovel handle, a coordination strip to measure distance, a pouch for the trinkets, and an instruction guide. Essentially this activity teaches your child to use a compass and directions to write a map or follow a map. I ended up drawing the map because my son wanted to be the hunter but next time we will switch roles. We had fun and the activity does work as long as you can draw and use the compass. My son did pretty well and he is nine, but he needed a little help using the compass and likely when he draws the map will need a little guidance. This is a great learning tool though, and he had a blast doing this with me. I am not sure if he would do this with a friend or not, and will probably hide the pods on his own and just have someone find them, but I will encourage as an activity using the compass and map. I may even incorporate this as a home school activity.

My 4 and 5 Year Old Love This Set
My 4 and 5 year old love to play with this set. You hide the plastic containers with little treasures in them and make a map using a tape measure (we used the one we use in the house) and compass (the compass comes with the set). The compass isn’t survival quality or anything but it’s decent for a toy. The entire kit could have been made with better quality but it won’t fall apart anytime soon. The girls love working with their dad to hide the treasure and make a map for their sister to then follow and find the treasure. They take turns doing it. It’s a fun and educational activity and I like the fact it gets them active outdoors (although you could use it in the house as well). You could technically bury the containers but I wouldn’t recommend it. Overall this is a great kit that combines fun, physical activity, and education. Great combination.

Kids loved searching for treasure
This is so fun for the kids. I also liked that it taught them about exploration. They felt like real explorers. This is a very fun toy. They played with it for a while, and had a lot of fun.We have many toys from this company. They make a lot of different products and we have generally been very happy with them. It worked well. This toy was durable. My kids can be a little rough with toys, but this continued to work just fine. We had no problemsI feel like this is good for child development. It kept my children's interest. It would also make a nice gift.I would recommend it.

It's an interesting kit, but the price point is too high
It's not bad, but there's not too much here. It's a compass and a couple plastic containers and trinkets. To be honest, I'm surprised it's more than ten bucks. The charms are just plastic and there's nothing to put the charms on. The graph paper to create your map is a really good idea. The compass isn't bad, but the shovel bottom just doesn't work.I don't know. I just think I wish I would have gotten a really nice compass and gotten separate things to hide. There are tons of quality compasses on Amazon for not too much. Why buy a toy when you can have something nice?

Just the thing for a bug-crazy kid.
This kit has enough tools and equipment for a kid to make a backyard safari and come home with anything from a caterpillar to a lizard. It's a good idea to have some adult involvement, if only because you don't want the specimens to end up all over the house. Yes, we improvised when we were kids, but it would have been nice to have everything in one place like this.

Fun little set
Fun little set, there are 4 multi colored little containers, some little treasures, compass, notebook and a few other items. The containers themselves all stack together which is kind of nice. We just got a surprise winter storm so lots of snow outside, so these were used for an inside treasure hunt. our kids are a bit young to use the compass, but we drew them a map and had them navigate.
