Invaluable
The Kidney Friendly Diet Cookbook was a lifeline at a very difficult time. Having just heard that my husbands kidneys had only 50% capacity due to current medication I searched the internet for advice and came upon this book. Helpful information and very good recipes combined with protein amounts plus sodium and potassium and now feel so much more secure when I cook. This book has been such a help. Great information and guidlines to promote an understanding of how the kidneys function. Very good recipes with protein amounts plus sodium, potassium and others. My husband is really enjoying them and I am sure his wellbeing has improved over the last two weeks.I can recommend The Kidney Diet Cookbook to anyone who is in a similar predicament.Sonia

This book will be helpful for those who have been ...
This book will be helpful for those who have been prescribed a pre-dialysis diet and are panicking at the lack of information available. Recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner will get you started on while you scour the internet for more information and recipes. The drawback to this book is that the portion size is quite small and therefore not what a normal adult would eat for a meal. That, in turn, throws the protein, sodium, potassium and phosphate counts out of whack. And that's why you bought this book.

Perfect for a person who lives alone and doesn't like to cook
Wasn't sure what to expect, and let me explain I hate cooking and don't own cook books as a rule - BUT having struggled with a very sick kidney I knew I had to do something and just lists of what I could and couldn't eat didn't help provide me with a way to put it together in a menu or meal fashion, this book was perfect. Simple instructions, simple ingredients, not too many steps, and the food was great. It was also easy to substitute foods I can't have for other reasons and foods I just don't care for with favored foods. Perfect book for a down to earth person.

great for beginners with chronic kidney disease
we were so overwhelmed with all the diet changes after first learning of having CKD stage 4. this book breaks it all down with easy to understand terms. it explains how to eat not just what to eat. it also has some great recipes to.

Great Book!
Learning what you can eat and how much you can eat can be overwhelming. So I was thrilled to find recipes that had a nutritional analysis. I especially liked the recipes for the low sodium chicken stock, beef broth and vegetable broth. The beef broth makes excellent gravy. See the recipe for Beef Tips with Mushroom Gravy on p.31. The low sodium chicken stock is used in the Chicken Marsala. This recipe can be found on p.56. Yum! I know my stage of kidney disease and how much sodium and protein I can eat, so the recipes are very useful. For some of us the potassium and phosphorus is also important.I like that the recipes are for multiple servings.Susie P.

hokey and not worth the money
I was disappointed in this book! I was hoping for some real insight and what I got was info I could get any kidney site. The book has only few receipes with hard to find ingredients. Definitely not worth the money! I recommend going to DeVita Kidney site and downloading their cookbooks for free and put them in a notebook. The result would be about the same as getting this book only better.

The Kidney Friendly Diet Cookbook
I guess that the term 'renal diet' means different things to different cases. I was appalled to see recipes that would really test my potassium limits (and even some that were not what I would call 'low sodium'). It also seems to be geared more towards cooking for a family (or at least not one person). It's probably as much my fault for not paying more attention to the description before buying it. Bottom line, for my needs, this book just doesn't cut it...
