Chalkboard Beer Tap Handle for Kegerator

Combine this tap handle and some colored chalk and you can have fun cool labels for each of your beers in your kegerator. I am not of an artistic bend so the first time an artistic friend is over and samples some homebrew I subtly set out the chalk and mention that the board on the tap handle looks awful empty. Only minor complaint I have is that the chalk can easily be smudged or wiped off during regular use of the tap handle. Something I am happy to live with considering all the other pro's this item brings to the table.

This does a great job of showing which beer I have on tap. However, the chalk that comes with it is not great quality. I went out and got chalk markers to use instead which look great. There could be some improvement on the writing surface though. With the stick of chalk and with the chalk markers, not all of the writing comes off when cleaning it so you can see past words on it. Still a nice thing to have around though. People really get a kick out of it.

As some of the reviews already state, the chalkboard portion of the handle has kind of a glossy finish and so it is difficult to write on using chalk. However, this is easily fixed by roughening the surface with some sandpaper. Once I did that, I was able to write on it with no issues.

Update: I purchased some chalkboard spray and used it on a variety of materials and I can confirm that the neon chalk markers aren't washable after a day or two. Just use regular chalk on these handles.Decent quality but the "chalk board" area is not real chalk board material. I strongly urge you not to get the neon chalk markers advertised with this product. They do not wash off!Also, for those who have a duel tap head kegerator, yeah, you can't put them side by side without turning them a bit (90 degree angle to one another).

Works great not too top heavy

Unlike a previous reviewer, our chalkboard doesn't hold chalk AT ALL. We're unable to write on the chalkboard surface rendering this handle useless for the purpose we purchased it for, namely, allowing me to write funny things on the tap handle. We're looking into buying a can of chalkboard spray paint and spraying the chalkboard surface, not what we had in mind when we bought this tap handle.That said, this still gets 3 stars because it is a nice, quality wood handle and I sense we've just got one with a bad batch of chalkboard "tape" on its surface.

It will serve it's purpose, but it's clearly cheaply made. I ordered 4 of these for our 4 tap kegerator, and 3 out of 4 were broken. The handle was separated from the chalkboard face. I'm going to have to glue it back on because it's not worth the trouble of returning it. I bought some chalk pens and tested it by putting a small dot on the chalkboard and it wiped off easily with water after sitting on there for a few minutes. I didn't try actual chalk on it, but maybe the people who are having issues are using real chalk. I think the pens work better. The idea of this is great, but for $30 each I expected a higher quality..

Looks and fits great, after about 2 years of use I had to repaint the chalk board on it. It slowly came off with use multiple keg changes.
