An insight into some of the best artillery of WW1
Clear, detailed description of design, production and wartime operations of the best known Skoda howitzers. The last chapter about their use during WW2 is really interesting.

Informativ

An outstanding "Heavy Presentation " for the Artillery Enthusiant
The author wrote this book as a clear "labor of love" as he provides an exhaustedly detailed narrative allied to great pictures. His knowledge of this subject- guns and in particular the gasoline power electric trains that lugged these steel monsters to and around the battlefield was completely new information to me. How the guns were assembled on the battle field and the ingenious way that they were designed - again most of the authors information was new to me. A minor critique is that I wish he would have included more information on the guns in action but since the book is primarily a technical history of these guns and the Skoda Company - I can't fault the author too much on this !!!! The text considering the amounts of technical data he is detailing is a dense but not overwhelming narrative - at least to this reader.I rate this book as almost perfect - 4 1/2 stars and highly recommended for the those readers - heavy artillery specialist's / enthusiast's.

Possibly everything you could want to know...
Very possibly everything you could want to know about the history of Skoda heavy artillery... 24, 38, & 42cm, from the late 1800s until 1950. The book is filled with period pictures & sketches, factory drawings, maps, technical data, & more than a brief history. Also included are sections on the transportation vehicles, including special trains, the building of emplacements for the guns, & a chapter on munitions. Strangely, while the 30.5cm guns are mentioned there is no real data on them. Printed on heavy gloss paper with contents & bibliography.

Great book on these weapons
Excellent book with great pictures and organization charts. Books traces the history of these cannons during both war. The end of WW2 see these cannons no longer in front line uses do the the fluid battle field of modern warfare. The destructive power of this guns is well documented in this book. Very informative on the subject
