Distressed leather covers this Dr. Martens classic for an imperfect finish. Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Yes thank you
I loved the pair of these I bought from Dr Marten so much and was very sad to find they were no longer available in store. Only to find them here online and for cheaper than I was buying them in store. Quality is great but they do seem to need a little more breaking in than the ones I bought in store. You almost always have to break in a pair but the ones I received here were just a tad stiffer but easy issue to overcome for the 40% cheaper price.

Nice Looking Boots.
Nice looking boots, as I expected. The black is really a very dark brown (a GOOD thing afaic), as noted in other reviews.Interestingly, the laces that come with the boot are not long enough to go through all the eyelets. Just as they show in the picture, you will probably have to stop one pair of eyelets short of the top. Perhaps I'm just ignorant and this is the intentional 'style' of the boot (like not buttoning the top button of a t-shirt), but somehow I doubt it.All other DMs I've owned have fit me correctly, being sized 12uk/13us. But these were a little large. Nothing that a thicker pair of socks won't fix.Haven't worn them long enough to find out if the heel falls off as has happened to many others who've reviewed them. But they are clearly glued on, rather than sewn on like the other DMs I've had appear to be. Time will tell... I figure if they fall off, it will be nothing some more glue and a few short wood screws can't fix, lol!

Fantastic!! Very well done Dr. Martens!
What a great surprise. The last time I remember ever looking in Dr. Martens direction was 15 years ago when I thought they made mostly the lacquer shiny hipster-style shoes. Since then I never even considered them as an option only until recently when I happened to see these good looking items in store. Gave it a try and finally well done military/urban-style high boots yet not oversized toe-box that I don't need to put in a pad to fill the gap between the toes to the ceiling! Even Timberland (who were my favorite till they changed their sizing) forgot the art of making well constructed and COMFORTABLE fit shoes. Plus - these came true to size! So rare lately! I have ordered in the past few months at least 8 or 9 different pairs of shoes from various different manufacturers and eventually had to return them all since NONE of them was true to size. I don't know what the heck happened to shoes industry that all standards are gone, but obviously Dr Martens are of the few that seem to still master the art of ergonomics. I'm a believer! I truly hope they will keep this line consistent for years to come.

Comfortable! Who Knew?
My first pair of Doc Martens, and I am impressed. Bought these so I would have something to wear with my kilt, and they have quickly become my "only" pair of shoes. I am a shoes horse, and prefer athletic since they cushion my feet more, but I can wear these all day without my feet hurting at all. They are stylish, and I don't freak when they get scuffed, since rough is the look they project.Only problem? I really want another pair, but, with these being so perfect, not sure I need to waste the money.

I. LOVE. THESE. BOOTS!
Like most good quality leather boots, they look better as they wear in.I put a huge gouge in the front of one of them with a nail on accident and was a little bummed, until I put some shoe polish on there and it covered up the change in color between the surface of the boot and the inside leather, and now they look even cooler! They aren't inky black, which I really like. They wear in and have some variation in tone.Buy them. Now.

These boots are made for walking...
Excelent product, excellent price. Buying a second pair because they are so damn cool. And if the not-blackness of them throw you off, slap some shor polish on, several coats, and after it dries and they are polished they are essentially black boots. And unless you are using them as a means to smoothe the wrinkles out of light collred fabric, they wont stain. And they are comfortable too, even without an insert.

Too Stiff
The Gideon Boot by Dr Martens looks amazing! Stylish and rugged. The sole is tough, durable and holds its ground very well. I wear a size 9 1/2 US Mens and ordered a size 8 UK / 9 US mens. Fits my foot beautifully. The Black is actually a dark brown, don't be fooled. The outside is a nice leather stitched to a very durable man made product on the inside. This man made material is very very very stiff. Although I did put mink oil on the leather, the boot doesn't bend like it should and the designers could do well to put a couple of notches in the boot after the 6 inch high mark and make this boot flex. It could also use a little padding on the top, as this is so stiff that it wears off my skin...so be sure to wear tall socks. I can only lace the boot up the original 6 eyelits otherwise I can't bend my ankle forwards or backwards at all. I had much higher hopes for these boots.

Skip it
This is the first pair of Docs that I've had an issue with. The inside came apart within a year and would hook my heal when trying to take them off. Very unusual for this brand so skip this one.
