The quality of the product, if you are planning to give this as a gift, is excellent. The bottle is thick, crimson coloured and has a hexagonal stopper in matt metal that resembles a wheel nut from a car. Round the neck is a tag, also in matt metal, inscribed JV x NJ. I took a photo of the box and bottle as part of this review.It seems quite a rare scent, certainly not one I see or smell often - though I have to confess I don’t spend a lot of time searching these things out! I think it might have originally been a limited release that has perhaps been given a wider exposure.What does it smell like?I sprayed a some on my wrist and a bit on my neck. The first smell I got, and it lasted only seconds, was of citrus, but it was replaced really quickly as the spray evaporated by a more spicy, leathery scent - with (to me at least) more than a hint of spiced Christmas coffee- with rum (a favourite and one I really wasn’t expecting!).An hour later, and I asked around for office opinions. First thing was that it was popular, and people wanted to know what it was. Second thing was that the ‘NJ’ connection raised a few eyebrows - though that was probably my age (I’d have got a similar reaction, no doubt, if I’d said I had just become a major fan of the Jonas brothers). Third thing, and the nicest surprise, was that two people asked where I’d got it and could I get them one too. So it does definitely seem popular. By this time, I’d say the smell was very amber-y, and wood-y. I really liked it - I think there’s no doubt it’s a younger person’s scent, but I enjoyed wearing it and will be buying another bottle when this is gone.. Overall, I think you could say it’s a bit like Sauvage (not Eau Sauvage, though).How does it last.Well, it goes through changes when you wear it, and it is quite light, but it certainly lasted 4 hours and was noticed - and complimented - after that time. By evening, I think it had faded, but it was never one of those scents that grabbed you and wouldn’t let go - it’s more subtle than that. I keep coming back to a spicy, fruity coffee with rum - if that makes sense. It reminded me of happy winter days, log fires, and that picture-book snow scene where everyone is happy and no one is cold!OverallAn unusual scent, and one that not everyone is wearing. Not too strong, but noticeable, and people did like it. Mainly amber and woodiness after a while, but as I said earlier, there’s definitely spice, coffee and rum in the mix somewhere. It was a really pleasant surprise, and one I’ll be buying more of.

The Jonas Brothers were coming to popularity right when I was growing up – they were everywhere and I'd be fibbing if I said I was a fan. Naturally I was skeptical of what this would be like, but the bottle looked interesting to me and the partnership with John Varvatos tipped me over into choosing it as I think his name lends a real authenticity and seriousness to a product in a market full of ridiculously expensive celebrity products.The bottle is simply boxed and looks great in real life, with a lacquered finish that doesn't really pick up on the product photo. Just looking at it you know it's a solid, weighty bottle. It's very nice to hold, the cap is also quality and I like the tag style label. It just looks cool, in an effortless way.The scent is unique, at least to my nose. It's got everything I like in a fragrance – namely wood and leather – but it's got an edge that I haven't experienced before. The smell comes in layers, with a sharp almost citrus aroma at first, going through wood and a dark spicy rum note. This makes it a very long lasting, and all this considered I think it's at a great price. Highly recommended.

This is good masculine fragrance but for with the price tag it carries I was expecting a little more than it actually offers. The scent is subtle rather than strong and it isn’t one that lasts particularly long neither, usually fading by mid afternoon when applied in the morning. Personally I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing - rather this than one that lingers annoyingly all day. The scent is not what I would call an everyday fragrance (for that price you couldn’t afford it to be) nor is it one which younger men would appreciate; I would think that it is designed to used by well heeled members of the plus thirty age group. Perhaps to promote this sophisticated image it comes in a shiny metallic finish bottle but rather than sophisticated I think this looks a little tacky, reminding me of Christmas tree bauble.To close, I should report that I’ve had three “you smell nice” comments so far when I’ve worn it and I suppose that this is as good a recommendation that a fragrance can get.

First off, this is really nicely presented and is striking in its originality. The scent is gently masculine - amber, leather, rum, bergamot and even tobacco. It's not overpowering, but is sexy. I bought this for my husband and we both really like it. The price has also come right down - it was originally retailing for over £50. Great value. Recommended.
