Bought it used
Someone bought one of these for me for my birthday (a used one because new ones are expensive). I've had it about a week now.Pros1. It's green. Not a lot of those around so I feel special having a green one.2. PSX Classics is my new crack. Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8, and 9, Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, etc. Very excited to play old favorites again.3. Decent game library. Some really good RPGs for the PSP too.4. It seems solid and well built. The disc drive on the back seems solid and snappy.5. Small, easy to carry around. This is always in a pocket now.Cons1. The one that I got had a blown speaker. It's not big deal and it's only really noticeable when it's loud. So I can't really comment on speaker quality. I wear headphones when I play or I just leave the volume turned down. I didn't deduct a star because it was the prior owner's fault, not the product itself.A couple of extra things.1. I have a pair of Koss PortaPros that I use for gaming on this thing because they're light, airy, and let me hear what's going on around me. I recommend picking up a pair of those (they're less than $30 and have a lifetime warranty...even if they look a tad retro) if your speaker ever blows like mine.2. I don't use an official Sony-branded memory card. What I ended up getting was a Memory Stick PRO-Duo-to-micro-SD Card adapter. Then I bought a 32GB micro SD card, put it into the adapter and went. This saved me about $20 because 32GB PSP memory cards are expensive and it's likely the adapter will die before the actual SD card and those cost about $5 to replace. With my 32GB memory card and headphones, I literally couldn't be happier with this thing. It's pretty much a little 5" window into my childhood and I know that I could probably game on this thing for a year before I actually need to buy a PSP game. I know the Vita is the new thing and the new platform, but considering how cheap you can pick up a normal one of these (the collector's edition is a tad more expensive) and considering the wealth of games available for it, I'll be able to game on this thing for years before I feel the need to upgrade. It doesn't hurt that pretty much everything I buy from the PlayStation Store can be downloaded and played on a Vita anyway. So when I upgrade I can take my games with me :) Anyway, if you're looking for a cheap PSP and you can find one of these, grab it. It's unique and I love it.
