works well
This is a two piece unit, heater and bath. The cord is only 5 feet or so which makes it short for an outdoor application beyond maybe a porch or deck. Instructions say not to use it on an extension cord (probably save-our-butt legal stuff). I've used mine on a mid-duty 20' cord for several months with no problems. However, invest in a good plug cover (available at big box hardware/home stores). When out of the box, the cord was quite stiff and I needed a small stone to hold the heater down. As the winter wore on, the cord "fit" to the bath and the stone could be removed. Despite several downer reviews for this product, it has worked well for me.If you are considering the type of bird bath with the heater in the bottom, I had one of those for ten plus winters and it worked perfectly until the wire got pulled out of the bottom from dumping the water each night over that period. So I would give that type a good report also (again despite several negative reviews for that product).

EXCELLENT FOR SUMMER AT LEASE
THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL BIRD BATH. LIGHTWEIGHT. EASY TO CLEAN. MATCHED PEA GRAVEL PERFECTLY. I USED A ROCK FOUNTAIN/PUMP ALL SUMMER AND IT REALLY HELPED TO ATTRACT THE BIRDS WITH THE MOVING WATER. I JUST INSTALLED THE HEATER AND AM ANXIOUS TO SEE HOW WELL IT KEEPS THE WATER FROM FREEZING. EVERY LITTLE CREATURE IS ATTRACTED TO THE MOVING WATER IN THE SUMMER. BIRDS, SQUIRRELS, CATS... I HOPE THEY ALL ENJOY IT IN THE WINTER

It works
Yes it is light and that is the problem as I had to drill a couple holes and add some ground spikes to keep down due to bird and wind. Also the heat element works well however would be nice if there was a tie down for the cord as it tends to coil a bit thus hard to keep the element flat to the bottom. All in all it does the job as we are in Idaho and bird had a place to play.

Does the job
Doing the job. Takes more water than it first appears — it’s pretty shallow. Does need to be refilled often: you definitely want that heating unit submerged. I put a small rock on it to keep it under water and eliminate the stiffness of the cord from lifting it up. Haven’t yet done a study on the electrical Bill before and after.

It is to warm to try it out.
I could have gotten the same effect with a thermostat plug for way way less.

Don't waste your money.
Company probably won't allow this review, waste of money. Birds not interested. I believe it's so slick they can't get footing so they move on to my other bird baths. Good for opossums and raccoons.
