How Do You Measure Length and Distance? (Measure It!)

This is a book on how to measure length and distance. You technically could then calculate volume using that distance, but the book sticks to just the basic measurement of length. The book is nothing fancy or complicated. It has color photos and shows various things that you can measure (like length of guinea pig or depth of a swimming pool). It does mention the metric scale and includes those measurements in parentheses.This book would be perfect for a math center in the classroom especially if you have a measuring station set up. You would need rulers, tape measures, and a height chart on the wall. Plus you will need lots of things to measure and compare.If representing a particular ethnicity is a concern at your school, the daughter and her father have brown skin and dark brown hair with large curls - I would say they appear to be Southern Asian like from India or Pakistan, but over the years, I have learned that many ethnicities in various countries can share similar physical features. I only went with that ethnicity estimation simply because most of my neighbors are from that region and their children are strikingly similar in appearance to the little girl in this book.Overall, we own all four books in the series. They are not overly engaging, but do address what needs to be learned. I would start with measuring distance, then liquids, then weight, and finally time. I do time last because the concept is just harder for the little ones to understand because you cannot see and experiment with it as much as the first three types of measurements.

It was a great book to use with children and beginning math skills.
