History of Art: Creation to Contemporary Workbook

I used A History of Art; Creation to Contemporary, while homeschoooling my 8th grader. It’s a simple text, yet appropriate and relevant in vocabulary, timeline knowledge, and history for a middle schooler. As a visual supplement, Rick Steve and Yellow Production’s travel videos to Europe include many of Bustard’s art periods augmenting the text’s information. As part of the year my son also completed A Child’s Geography (Medieval Kingdoms) connecting many of the medieval countries and their Art in their corresponding eras on these videos in a very amazing way. All of these sources combined have created connections and relevance of our world that have not only impacted my son and me immensely, but also whetted the desire to visit these culturally rich destinations. What a fun year before high school!

Just got it in today. Seems like a great curriculum for a elementary- middle schooler. I will use it for an 8th grader and assign more on the side. I am disappointed that I have to now order the flashcards because not all of the info is in the book. The quizzes and tests use info from the flashcards. I am not sure we will use it well, like the games. Overall I like it, but seems a little lacking in some way.

I am using this workbook for my high school Art History class. I made a PowerPoint slideshow for each era/movement plus created map work so students could see where each group was discovered or created. We have done some of the suggested projects, but some that were geared more toward younger students were replaced with more age-appropriate challenges.My students appreciate the beautiful color photos and we cut out, laminated, and set up the games using the cards in the back of the book.Very pleased with this book, but you MUST purchase the separate flashcard set which contains all the information for the worksheets and quizzes or be prepared to do the research to share with your student/s.
