WoodstockD2845 1/4-to-1/2-Inch Mortising Chisel Set, 4-Piece

I have a Delta mortiser and I needed some replacement bits, if for no other reason that i don't use the mortiser all the time and over time the bits can get lost or rusty. The locally available Delta mortising bits are rather expensive so I decided to order this set instead. For price there is no comparison -- I couldn't touch this Amazon price on individual bits anywhere, so I bought them.There was a problem with the chisels. The shank of the chisel didn't match the dimensions of the collar on the Delta mortiser into which they are inserted. I solved this problem by reaming out the mortiser's collar (it's like a short piece of metal tubing that surrounds the chuck area) to a slightly larger dimension, then i was able to insert the chisel in there and clamp down on it with a set screw already in the unit. If you do this, just be as careful as possible to keep the ream out area on center. Mine is a little off center so it inhibits bit rotation very slightly at times, but it is not a big problem, and the mortising chisels and drill bits work well.What if in the future I decide to go back to Delta bits for the mortiser? Well, then I would have to buy a replacement shank from a parts supplier.I am happy with this product, especially the price.

Would have been 4 stars, but the QC for the auger and chisel sharpening is very lax. I used my diamond files to clean up the primitive auger cutting points/surfaces. Needed to clean up rough ground external surfaces on the chisels to smooth the finishes on the 4 sides. Then, I used a diamond sharpening cone to make sure the 4 auger points were sharp. Also, needed to file/clean up the internal bores of the chisels which made a lot of noise at first use. Much quieter now and cut great mortises. (Bought these to use with the Shop Fox W1671 mortising machine.)

These work absolutly fine. Pay attention to shaft diameter. These WILL NOT fit into a Jet mortise attachment for your drill press(originally purchased for). As luck would have it, I found a dedicated mortise machine at my local Ollies(a discount store), and they fit exactly. Not sure if they will stand the test of time but so far they have worked very well(even the harder materials such as white & red oak). And the price was right, much lower then name brands, I am a home owner, and just a "wood butcher hobbiest", so take the reveiw as you will Im not a pro just frugal(cheap) with limited assets. But Im happy with it.

This Shop Fox chisel set is of excellent quality - fit and finish are very good - sharp with no burrs. They came very well packaged also - each bit was shrunk wrapped and housed in a blow-moulded storage box.

Strong and durable bits.

These tool work great and the size it right on. The only thing I miss was to check the neck diameter. My tool holder was set at 1/2in and the neck on these are 3/4in. I had to make changes to my holder to use this tool.

Chisel itself is sturdy and might work properly but no chance to use it since my standard drill press can not use such a long mortise chisel because there are TWO reasons why...1st one is that once I attach the chisel to drill press, I have no space between chisel and drill press table and I can barely have only thin wood to drill which absolutely doesn't make any sense.Second of all, as long as the drill press is NOT a special one which is fit to mortise chisel, the square shank of chisel will be spinning and can't not make a square hole but only normal drill hole.I hope the description at Amazon was supposed to be more accurate and mentioned about special drill press is a MUST to use this product.
