Cute and quirky.
Ah, the French... I would give this 3.75 stars if I could. The premise of this film was quirky, bizarre, and yet funny all the same. Not in a slapstick sort of way, but a subtle, understated manner that made you chuckle here and there from the natural humor that life can bring - when it gets messy. The acting was good, the music sweet...but in so many ways, it frustrates too. At least, for someone from another country looking in.I do not understand the French, or the Europeans to be exact, when it comes to their more "modern" tastes. As someone who has lived in multiple countries abroad, I understand that there is an element of - "do not look at us just for our past and thereby patronize us, as if we were people from long ago still living in the lovely 'old world.' Look at us for who we are, just as modern as you, if not more so."I get it, but I always find that it is in the "more so" that they loose so much. This mindset seems to infiltrate much of Europe, and ruins a great deal in the process. After all, a film set in Paris, and the only scenery that the producers can manage to throw in are sterile glimpses of modern art, dreary buildings, and grey skies? The male lead is supposedly a head honcho for some major business that is number two in the country, and extraordinarily wealthy and powerful. Yet he works in a building that looks more akin to something a mediocre business specializing in low-end office supplies would own. It is insanely bland, sterile, and so average that if average could speak it would be offended by such a comparison. Never mind the spacious but blase apartment that he calls his own.He takes his love interest on a first date (lunch) to what resembles a high-end Denny's, if Denny's had a high end, and later they go to a hotel room that looks like a high-end Motel 6 (if that chain had a high end too). They call that romantic, and on par with the premise of who the characters are? The lighting throughout the film is far too grey and cool, and they both live in worlds that are positively sterile and dull, especially for an artist and a man of such wealth. Even her studio is grey, and the work she does would pass for something that you would see in the vestibule of an old 1970s dentists office (no offense to dentists).I never understand why modern Europe is so intent on proving that they are so modern, because in doing so they go to such extremes that they loose all of their flavor. They take what was a great, funny premise, with good actors, and a potentially fabulous backdrop, change the lighting to dull, set up the scenery to be bland, and insist on living in a world that denies all of the great beauty and potential around them. I do not know any real artist that would do that, or one who is in love with a such a being. But it was still a cute, quirky film nonetheless, and I would rate it closer to four stars than three if I could. I just wish they would have been less afraid of the beauty of their world, and of art.

Disappointing
I didn't really like this. Too much of the accepted foreign immoral aspect that's making its way into most of the movie industry now. My review is that it's a sort of sleezy Hallmark type movie. Same format as all the fairly popular Hallmark movies - boy meets girl, girl eventually falls for boy, then there is a falling out, and at the very end, they get together and everyone lives happily ever after. I have to say that I like that format pretty well, (yes, for entertainment, I'm pretty good with predictable) and enjoy watching the Hallmark channel at Christmas time. But they always leave you feeling good after. With this film? It just didn't have the same charm because it was full of language, situations, innuendoes, etc. I just wasn't sure that I even felt good after watching it even with that same theme I usually actually appreciate. Some people say it is more adult to have a more 'adult' theme. But I just find it disappointing. Especially when you are just looking for a feel good movie that is well acted, quirky, random, and hope for something that isn't going to make you disgusted and without leaving anything to the imagination. I have a good one. I don't need everything spelled out for me.....

A Surprising and Satisfying Breath of Fresh Air
While on a bit of a French track in film, I checked this one out. It's an easy on the psyche adult flirtation that turns into a real relationship. It's got an amusing quirkiness that's very pleasing, a different kind of funny that's not in your face. The two leads do a fine job-- Vincent Lindon as Lucas and Sandine Bonnaire as Elsa. It's a light-hearted piece, worth seeing.

Love and paranoia
Love makes people paranoid (and stupid). An expose of jaded, mature humans' attitude to love and each other. Realistic and unusual in its realism. Definitely not Hollywood and very entertaining for that fact. Paris is beautiful, and the inclusion of art into everyday life is very European.

Although predictable like most romantic comedies
I am learning French, so I wanted to watch and listen to the French language for practice. Although predictable like most romantic comedies, the movie was entertaining. At times, the pace was a little slow, but the film was still enjoyable.

A story of overcoming foolish choices based on a broken heart and fear of loving again. Very good story, well acted.
A love story of how two people overcome the odds and one's fearful choices on the path toward building a loving relationship. I really like this movie. It's a realistic depiction of how previous relationship pain can be the cause of desperate choices, fear of trusting another person who may bring more turmoil to the heart, and terrible bumps in the road toward healing. It does have a few scenes of nudity which I wish it didn't have. The language is not profane which I truly enjoy movies where vulgarity was not present, so the story is not interrupted by unnecessary foul words.

Delectable French souffle
A delightfully light, diverting romantic comedy. It's marvelous to see a mature couple struggling with issues while falling in love. Two wonderful actors, a little art, quite a bit of paranoia and Paris---who could resist?

It's alright
It's alright I guess. It's the same story as pretty much any other French romantic comedy. Things start out badly, they fight, there is conflict. In the end, all is well that ends well. I wanted something that made me laugh. It didn't.

Very nice
This movie first introduced me to the main actor, and I am hooked. He is believable, and soulful - kind of like how Mel Gibson was before he totally lost it. I would watch this movie again.
