Wear protective gloves!
I read that Lily Beetles detect the plants by scent and that if you can mask the scent by, for example, an infusion of garlic this will deter the pests. If that is the case them Neem oil hould work as it smells like garlic on steroids. I don't know if it will work against the pests but I'm posting this review to warn people to wear protective vinyl or latex gloves because the smell of the oil is very difficult to get off ones hands. I had to wash my hands numerous times including with wash-up liquid, lemon juice but still the pungent smell remained on my hands. I ended up smothering my hands in lavender hand cream and putting on vinyl gloves for an hour or so. In the end I got rid of the smell but it was a long process and I won't make the mistake again.UPDATE 27 June: I'm amazed at how effective this oil has been. I was plagued by lily beetles destroying my lilies even though I was catching the blighters and removing their grubs. Since I sprayed my plants, even though it has rained, the destruction has ceased. I think being an oil it withstands rain. I had an infestations of black fly on my Artemesia Powys Castle and a couple of Philadephus: the Neem oil cleared the problem. The oil seems expensive but because it lasts after a dose I think it's worth the cost.

Strongly-scented spray that works very well
Bought this to use on my collection of somewhat exotic houseplants as a preventative measure and to combat any possible current pests I’m not yet aware of. I tried it on a handful of plants of different varieties at first to test it and I’m pleased to say it didn’t cause any damage or affect them negatively in any way. It leaves a glossy layer on the leaves though which is interesting as some plants appear to look like fake plants with the shine on them. It does however have a seriously strong scent of garlic which even for a garlic lover like myself was quite overwhelming at times, especially during the first couple of days after I sprayed my plants. It was a little challenging to cope with the smell that travelled throughout my fairly large-ish house so I had to put some of the sprayed plants outside for a day and ventilate the place well to get rid of the smell. It does start to fade after a few days though. Overall I think it works well, application is easy and takes little effort to use.

Zero effect on black flies
I've given it 3 stars because I can't comment on how effective it is on caterpillars, however, if you are thinking of buying this product for indoor plants to fix a black fly problem, don't bother! The description says it works on other bugs, but it has absolutely no effect unfortunately. Just leaves your room smelling of garlic, which I could handle if it worked, but it did nothing. I used it for about a week and a half, every day, with zero impact.I purchased it thinking it was pure Neem oil as I'd heard that works but this product is a mix of multiple things - maybe that's why it didn't work!

Doesn't work against thrips
Purchased to use against thrips which have since killed off my thyme and basil plants and also my Portulaca, and seem to have mostly disappeared since those plants went away.Unfortunately did nothing against the thrips, despite repeated applications. So doesn't work on thrips. Also not pure neem oil - be aware it contains garlic oil and others as well. The scent is pretty strong, though not entirely unpleasant.... if you like garlic, which I do.

Very Effective
I have an elm bonsai that has had a mysterious infestation since purchase several months ago. I tried traditional pesticides weekly, rinsing the leaves weekly, even repotting with new soil and the infestation seemed to reappear even worse a few days after treatment. After only a week and a half of treatment it appears I have cured the infestation. I had also noticed many oil covered tiny gnats sticking to the window next to the bonsai after treatment which I assume are aphids. So it's surprising that rinsing and traditional pesticides hadn't worked previously. There was also an issue with fungus like growth in the soil that seems to have been cleared up by the neem oil treatment. One thing to note is that I completely doused the tree in oil and many leaves fell off afterwards including new growth leaves. The product is so effective that you probably just need a light spray as to not harm the leaves or maybe rinse the neem oil off after 24 hours. My plant is quite healthy despite the previous infestation so the leaf loss doesn't concern me very much. The smell is also pretty bad with the garlic but it wears off after a few hours. It doesn't stick to your hands if you just wash them with soap afterwards.

Works!
My young, 4 year old greengage tree was on it's last legs. So far it was doing really well and bearing good crop of fruit. This year( 2019) has been ovelwhelmed by some pests, i assumed grenfly. Leaves curled, young growth stunted and dying. Whole young twigs drying up. Young fruit wrinkled and dropping.off.After 2 applications in the evening, solid top and bottom ( nothing to lose here) 4 days in between, amazing result!Young leaves appeared on branches, fruit recovered (although less than in the previous year). My tree is alive and doing well. I sprayed third time, 2 weeks after the second application. So far, a month and a half later, all is well.Worth.the money and a little weird garlicky smell.I will buy again.
