June knows good food and how to explain a recipe
This book should be subtitled "The best of Lithuanian cuisine for the complete idiot and for anyone who loves food that tastes really, really good." June obviously enjoys good food. She has researched the dishes; put together recipes that give you dishes that are the best of their kind; and explained how to prepare them in a way that you can't go wrong.I grew up hating these dishes because the person who made them (except for the Šaltibarščiai) for me had obviously not learned how to prepare food well. However, I visited Lithuania recently and discovered that these dishes could be done well. Then, in exploring recipes, I found June's. I have prepared June's recipes and my wife, who is not Baltic or inclined to like things she is not used to, has given me a high five for each one and insisted I make them regularly as part of our home menu. And, I am happy to do so because these dishes, as developed and explained by June, are some of the best eating I have had. If you are Lithuanian, I hate to say it but, these are at least as good as your mother or grandmother made. If you are not LIthuanian but enjoy good food, you will not go wrong with these recipes -- if you follow the directions. (For example, if you prepare the dishes requiring grated or ground potatoes, you must do so as directed or you will be disappointed.)Thank you June.

Foolproof
Lithuanian food is not easy even my Lithuanian friends eat at restaurants. But since I left Chicago, that option is gone. This book gave me all the details I need to make a perfect dinner. All the pitfalls and problems were forewarned and all the steps were explained precisely. I hope the author tackles another cuisine someday.

Excited to experience my heritage
I'm 1/2 Lithuanian but didn't grow up eating much in the way of Lithuanian foods. I do remember helping my grandma make cold beet soup and what we always called klatsky, which appear to be meat dumplings since I've never been able to find a recipe using that name (perhaps it was a slang term?) I've never had or made zeppelins, but the recipe appears straightforward, so fingers crossed!

I was tasked with making a Lithuanian Birthday Feast for 10 people, and I had no where to start! I found the author's beautiful blog and bought the cookbook.Everything I made from the cookbook was a total hit and the Birthday Boy said it was very authentic. So, thank you June! I was a success thanks to you!

Finally!
I've pretty much just thumbed through this collection of recipes.....for now. I've been looking for a very long time for a good cabbage rolls recipe comparable to our favorite Lithuanian/Polish restaurant in Chicago.....Mabenka's. I'll be trying it in the several several days. This collection also includes a recipe for half sour pickles! My favorite!Stay tuned!

Lithuanian cooking, explained beautifully.
The recipes were great. These dumplings are hard to make. These were explained nicely, and recipes were easier. In English.

Delicious amazing authentic! đź’–
I have used lithuanian Cook books before and never quite tasted authentic. This book I'm absolutely in love with and is my 'go to' from now on, easy to follow, detailed, lovely stories and simplified recipes that taste amazing! I'd love a recipe for kastinys however... Can't buy it in the UK and run out of supplies quickly after I return from LT.

A mush for every kitcken.
Not just another cook book...this is story of passion. Not just for the wonderful food but also for her adopted country, the people and the culture. Every meal has a story that just wants you to get going in the kitchen. The detail, accompanied by wonderful photography, is such that you can't go wrong and the end result, even for me, puts traditional lithuanian cuisine on the world stage.

A love story, not just a cookbook
What a lovely book. Not just a cookbook but, as the author says, a love story. Really easy to pick up and read a bit at any time. I love the context of the recipes. And they all seem to be comfort food. There is a lovely warmth about this book.
