Egg slicer/chopper
I use this egg slicer/chopper alot. I think Oxo no longer makes these, which is a shame, because they are so useful! I wanted to buy some for gifts and could not find them any longer.

A great choice
My simple guillotine type of slicer finally broke a few steel wires after 25 years of use. I chose this model from a dazzling array. To date I find it more useful than my previous one because the egg cradle rotates eliminating the need to lift a sliced egg to dice it. One can also slice the egg in either direction. This product has a nice weight and feel, is a snap to use and is easy to clean. It takes up a bit more shelf space than the simpler model and I hope it will last as long.

Cadillac of Egg Slicers
Hands down the best egg slicer out there. Will last forever and does exactly what it should. Cut eggs, not only into slices, but also chops. Why 4 stars. Two things.- Its not a small unit, and takes up an inordinate amount of space in a drawer.- I would not buy this if I didn't have a dishwasher. Cleaning this by hand would be very annoying. Its got lots of places stuff can get caught. (Not to say any other egg slicer is much better)Great though. If you need an egg slicer, this is the Cadillac.

Love it
I had an egg slicer that broke. I did some research on Amazon prior to replacing it. I did not know that an egg slicer could be so nice. It slices very well, but I like my egg chopped for salads. Once you slice the egg, it can be easily turned in the plate inside the slicer, (no hand turning of the egg), and cut again. Therefore you get a chopped boiled egg. There is a video on this product, if you do not understand my description. I love this and it works beautifully.

Not a good purchase
I have many oxo products and love them. This one just went into the trash can. I tried to slice mushrooms but they all got stuck in the wires. I finally sliced them with a knife. I then thought I would give it another chance and went to clean it (which was very frustrating) and found it is almost impossible to clean. I picked the pieces out with a toothpick, thought I had them all, then ran it under the faucet while it was soaked with dish detergent and everytime I thought it was clean I would spot another piece of mushroom. I don't know how much water I wasted on this thing but it was too much. I then tossed it in the trash and decided I will now go back to slicing things by knife.

cuts eggs well, but...
Unit is solidly constructed, slices eggs with usual ease as do most egg slicers that use wire to slice eggs.I purchased this because I loved idea of the ability to hold the egg solidly while dicing the egg.But as with every other wire based egg slicer, this unit falls from the same issues I have had with them, in that I must remove the egg from the slicer before lifting the wires to slice again. This unit however, comes with a heavy spring that holds the top cradle in place, and when you pull the wires up through the egg, despite the cradle holding down the egg, pieces of egg cling to the wires and make their escape out and into the slits in the cradle. Dicing the egg causes even more egg to escape. Attempting to lift the cradle with out pulling up the wires is impossible the way it is designed.Cleanup is a joke, if you get egg caught in the cradle then it is extremely difficult to get out, the so called plate in the bottom that is to help clean up the lower part doesn't even get near as messy as the wires and cradle.Over all I do not care for this unit as designed. If I could remove the cradle after slicing and leave the wires down so not as to run the wires back up through the egg it could be much better. As a side note I have decided to modify mine. There is a heavy spring that keeps the wire and cradle attached to each other, and it was not at all easy to remove. However after doing so, I have been able to remove the egg prior to lifting the wire, and it makes all the difference. The cradle can now be lifted and the egg removed for better slicing and dicing.2 stars for requiring this modification, if it was not possible I would have given it 1 star and returned or tossed it in the trash.

Slces great, hard to clean
This thing is great for egg salads. The fact that it spins guarantees nice and uniform dicing. It's difficult to clean though. I end up using my shop air compressor to get the bits out. Washing in dishwasher does not get all the bits out. of the top part of the slicer. I'd give it a 4 or 5 star review if it wasn't for the difficulty of cleaning it.

GREAT!
I use this for hardboiled eggs AND mushrooms. It makes perfectly sliced mushrooms for easy sauteeing. It takes a few mushrooms to get the hang of it, but once you figure it out it is so much faster than slicing by hand!It does a wonderful job on eggs and with the rotation option, you can make perfect egg salad in no time at all. A real bonus is the removable grid, it scrapes out all the bits left behind in the teeth so you can just lift it out and rinse it off.A real time saver that feels sturdy and well built. I expect to use this fo r years to come. Love OXO products, I haven't had a bad one yet!
