Q: Can you swap the cord for a longer cord and change the side it pulls from?

Yes and yes. You will need patience and determination but both are achievable. If possible, ensure that the new cord you fit is exactly the same diameter as the one you are taking out. It just helps to make I all work. I will venture the opinion that it is quite fiddly and I have found that it has helped me enormously to take shots of each stage on my mobile as I dismantled it. When you change the cord pull side, you will need to take out the pulley mechanism and refit it on the other side. If I recall accurately it is explained moderately well in the leaflet that accompanies the product. Good luck and try to allow lots of time because it's much more difficult to return to it later, especially if you have a memory like mine !

The pull cords are around 1 metre in length

Q: My window is 143cm,can this track be cut down to the size i require?

yes, you can cut it with a hacksaw, it comes with instructions

Q: How far does the rail sit away from the wall?

On all of my rails the distance from the wall is 2 cms. Hope this is useful.
