Duraflame DFS-550-21-RED Stove Heater, Red

The heater is very lightweight. The metal used is very thin, so if you are expecting a "cast iron" look, try another product. Though I didn't have any trouble putting on the feet, I can certainly see where it might be difficult. It takes a certain amount of hand strength to get the feet aligned. The feet are plastic. They look it, too. The heat only comes out the bottom of the fireplace unit, so your toes might be toasty but it takes awhile to see a rise in room temperature, even on the highest setting.So far, guests have been charmed by the artificial flames; however, as mentioned in a previous review, if the unit is not up close to a wall, the light "escapes" out the back.All surfaces of the heater are cool, except the area toward the bottom of the unit where the heat blows out from the bottom. I would consider this safe around supervised children as long as they are not at the crawling stage.I am actually very pleased with the color. The RED is far more a Cranberry. There is a massive thick black cord that I realize is for safety reasons, but it is very hard to hide it. The tag on the cord nearest the plus going into the electric socket is MASSIVE. I thought about taking it off, but it doesn't look like an easy or safe thing to do.It is a pleasant little unit with a certain charm, not nearly as much of a heat source as expected, but safe so far; a fairly safe way to heat a small room.

Received mine in 3 days (very impressed) and it worked wonderfully right out of the box, blowing heat immediately.Things you should know: This little "stove " is cranberry colored (not red) I think only women will care about this Ha-Ha.There have been a moderate amount of complaints about Duraflame stoves/heaters ( both here and on H _ N TV) which is why I purschased the extra protection plan (I figured for 19.00 bucks why not be safe (and why be cheap?) The compliments far outweighed the complaints so I decided to take a chance. The unit was light enough for this 61 year old lady (with an arthritic back) to carry up a flight of stairs ( I imagine it would then be easy to move from room to room) I must say that it is adorable to look at! We live in 103degrees San Antonio TX. so we'll probably use it for ambience ( does the flame look real?, of course not, is it enchanting and adorable ? YES. We plan to be able to turn the thermostat down ( during the few months of winter here ( about 3 LOL, I laugh because we're from New England ) to 68 or 67 at night so we're not heating a 4 bedroom house (it's just the 2 of us and our "pup" sleeps in the bedroom with us) But.... to be honest this little unit is just adorable, what can I say and lets face it, a heck of a lot more stylish then your run-of the-mill space heater. I'll let you know if I encounter any problems with it ,as some others have.

This a nicer looking "fake" fireplace than I've seen elsewhere. Delivered on time and Seller did followup. While is says not for use outdoors, I have a patio where it is completely protected from the elements, small seating area for 2, near a safety outlet easy to plug and unplug. For 2 chairs drawn up close it takes the chill off and makes it nicer to sit outside (with a sweater). If you are looking for a "heater" for a large area this would not work. And if inside, it would give off nice heat.

Love, love, love these heaters!! I was given one as a gift and was so impressed with the heater, I purchased this for my mom. It's perfect for an apartment or to add some heat an atmosphere for a bedroom or any room. I actually sleep better when it's in my bedroom. However, I recommend the larger unit with the remote.. This unit was a little too smal but would be great for a kids room or a smaller space. going to buy another one for my mom!! Don't know how I lived without it. Much better than a typical space heater.

I love it so much, I've ordered a second one! The only thing you have to do when you take it out of the box is to put the "feet" on. This took me a while because they didn't seem to want to slide and lock in place as the directions said. After fighting with them for about half an hour, I finally got them on, plugged it in, and it has worked great. It is very light and easy to move, and the color is really pretty. I also really like how there is a fan at the bottom to blow the warm air out which seems to help warm the room quicker than my oil heaters which don't have any kind of fan. I have this one in my kitchen, and my two cats were fascinated by the flames the first couple days. Also, as some people have asked, the sides and top do not get hot at all, so it is perfectly safe for klutzy me, my cats, or children. The only place you feel heat is the warm air blowing out the bottom. It's very simple to use. When you open the door on the front, you will see a switch to turn it on and off. Just turn on, adjust the temperature, and you're done.

I am very happy with this little heater! It has two switches & two round dial type adjusters. One switch to turn on the flame, along with a dial to adjust the brightness. The flame is not as realistic as some, but it still gives the soothing effect well enough! The other switch turns on the heat & then there is an adjuster dial to set it to automatically turn off once desired temperature is reached. You can adjust the dial buy turning in higher or lower buy turning it left or right. The fan has sound, but not so that it is distracting, the heat comes from the bottom, blown out of a fan, it is warm but not hot enough to burn your carpet & it is inches off the ground & the heated air naturally goes upwards. The top does not get warm at all, so you can set things on it with no worries! I am happy with my purchase, so much better than a plain space heater!

I bought the cranberry color duraflame and I am quite please with it. The flame looks nice and it has a good color to it. I wanted the feel of a fireplace and its coziness without all the work and this does the job. The fireplace is fairly small and I have to put a base under it to give it height. However, it would look great in a small room or office. I rated it at a 3 because of its size and the fact that it casts lights on the wall behind the fireplace. All in all it was a great purchase for what I was looking for.
