Evolution

An interesting Evolution
Disturbed have been on something of a roll lately. After a hiatus from 2011 to 2015 they returned with the hugely successful ‘Immortalized’ whict included the barn-stormingly successful cover of Simon and Garfulkel’s ‘The Sound of Silence’. ‘Evolution’ is the follow up, one would think that David Draiman and co would want to follow up with something of a similar vein, skirting the heavier, more esoteric end of their range. Not a bit of it.Evolution starts in classic Disturbed style. ‘Are you Ready’ is an instant classic, and is so ‘Disturbed’ that if you fed all their songs into a supercomputer and programmed it to produce a song, this is pretty much what it would come up with. Pacey, energetic, full of shrewd key changes, and of course DD’d unique staccato style, it is certain to be a future classic. Following is ‘No more’ an ode to America’s addiction to global war. Again it’s typical Disturbed, with a fabulous chorus, the twist being the inventive militaristic beat (almost Marilyn Manson-esque) provided by Mike Wengren (more on his performance later). And then it changes. The rest of the album may prove something of a shock to fans of ‘The Sickness’ in its radio-friendliness and commerciality.Firstly, the ballads. There are no less than three in the remaining 8 tracks, plus one acoustic number. Concerning? Well, no, because such is the quality of the likes of ‘Reason to Fight’ and ‘Hold on to Memories’ that it hardly matters. Sincere, moving and beautifully sung (as always), not only are they great songs in their own right, but they break the album up and give it a structure and identity that the last couple of albums have perhaps been lacking. The remainder of the songs are mid-tempo heavier numbers that each have a unique identity and are buoyed by their lyrical content. ‘In Another Time’ for example, covers the subject of global on-line addiction. No songs about dragons here. However If I were to be hyper-critical, a lack of input by the rhythm section leaves a couple of numbers feeling flat and paceless. Mike Wengren, in particular, appears to have had the last 8 tracks off.Evolution is undoubtedly their most commercial work, and could have fallen into the trap befalling Five Finger Death Punch on their insipid ‘And Justice for none’ album – of being generic-sounding, tired and overly radio-friendly. Not a bit of it, Disturbed have, and always will have, too much identity for that to happen. Furthermore, it feels organic and like a natural progression. It may not be for everybody, but for its sincerity alone, Evolution is pretty hard to fault.

CD immensamente meraviglioso
Il CD è arrivato prima del previsto, ma soprattutto è sottolineo soprattutto mi è arrivato con la custodia integra. A parte a questo, la musica dei DISTURBED è sempre meravigliosa.
