Basic Millinery for the Stage

Good for if you want to get into Millinery (hat making)
Book is very basic. (which isnt bad.) Nothing is in color, which can make the pictures hard to decipher! This book teaches how to make hats from straw, buckram, felt and wire. (four basic constructions for hats). The instructions will be a breeze if you have any sewing experience at all! Hat making requires a bit of creative thinking, so this book is not a "step by step" process to make every single hat youve ever dreamed of, just the four basic methoods to making hats. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has a bit of creativity as well as a desire to start making hats! Gave this a 4 star for not having pics in color, an wished it went a bit more into detail in some parts. I work as a milliner (hat maker) and this was the book I started with! (I now own two copies, one for work and one for my own personal studio!)p.s. If youre serious about making hats, just a bit of warning, IT CAN/WILL GET EXPENSIVE! But I assume that is typical with any hobby! :)

Basic beginner sewing, not basic millinery.
When they say "basic" they really mean "mainly instructions on ultra-basic sewing in general" rather than specific guidance for making hats. Most of this book covers things like how to read a pattern, defining fabric types, how to do slip and basting stitches, and how to twist two ends of wire together... There is very little on any specific hat, like basic patterns or explicit directions on making any item. This book went directly to the library as a donation.
