Softer, but NOT weaker
The Evolution album is definitely a shift from Disturbed's usual aggressive, heavy-treaded sound, but it's not a complete departure, and it's one of my favorites. It's got some good ballads and softer songs that really explore David Draiman's vocal range and even though they're not songs you'd expect from Disturbed, they're still quite good and pack an emotional punch - even after listening several times over, I still get teary at 'A Reason To Fight', among others. Some of the songs are more orchestral and sweeping than in the usual percussive heavy rock, but I don't think that this change is a bad one in any way. All bands change over time as music progresses and they start to evolve and explore more of what they do, and I think that this album is a successful and powerful example of how a band can expand their sound without weakening it. Definitely get the deluxe version. I know some people don't like that it's not as 'heavy rock' as previous albums and I understand where they're coming from, but personally this is one of my favorite Disturbed albums and I definitely recommend it to anyone exploring and enjoying this band.

Two decades of missing ballads, but still a great listen.
A lot of the reviews thus far are giving one star and complainig about the album not sounding like Disturbed, but they've missed an important detail.Over the past two decades, Disturbed has released a number of albums and most of them haven't had the typical power ballad found in many, if not most, metal albums. Evolution contains the 20 years of ballads we haven't encountered before.Once you realize this, the album is less... jarring than the first listen through. The lyrics still carry the depth and meaning that is synonymous with the band at this point. If I had any one gripe to make about the album, it would be the track order. Its a back and forth between heavy metal and metal ballad. The sudden change in tone between songs can feel like musical whiplash. If the order had been more heavy metal at the front with a gradual progression to lighter ballads at the end, the flow would be better. All in all, this is a good album, as long as you're ready for more ballads from Disturbed than normal. Basically, if you liked their cover of The Sound of Silence from Immortalized, you won't regret buying this album.

Rock On!
Great album with some really good lyrics to the songs. It's good to see how the band revolves around certain themes. All in all, I enjoy this album.

Don't let the negative reviews deter you
If you like Disturbed and their music don't let the negative reviews deter you as I almost did and I would've missed out. After reading the reviews I was expecting a whole cd of acoustic ballads with maybe one or two heavy songs. This couldn't be further from the truth! I got the deluxe version that has 14 tracks and I would say that well less than half of those are ballads or acoustic and out of those a couple of them start off acoustic but then go to electric so I am a little baffled by the people dissing this cd. Is it a little different than typical Disturbed music? Perhaps a little but I did not notice a significant difference. I even enjoyed the acoustic ballads as I don't mind when a metal band throws in a few of those from time to time. Even my totally fav band Five Finger Death Punch throws in the occasional ballad! If they were to totally lose their balls and make a complete cd of wussy ballads then yes, this cd would be a disappointment.....but as I have previously stated, that is not the case! My only disappointment, and it is a minor one, is that I thought the last track titled "The Uninvited Guest" was going to be a cover of the Mercyful Fate song of the same name. Sadly, it is NOT.....lol. All in all, a great Cd and I highly recommend it to Disturbed fans and metal fans in general.

Great Gift for a Disturbed Fan
I got this Disturbed Deluxe CD as a gift for one of our sons that likes them. He loved it.What he really liked was the extra songs on this deluxe version, especially Sound of Silence.

Best, most diverse album yet
Every song here fits the title. Disturbed has evolved, but they haven't left their roots. Are You Ready could easily be from any of their earlier albums, it particularly has some Ten Thousand Fists feels. And the songs like A Reason To Fight, while quite different from the 'original' Disturbed aesthetic still feel like they fit. David Draiman has come along way, and he really goes all out on these songs. While they aren't as heavy as Indestructible or Liberate the band does a great job expanding into these new horizons. While I can understand some people being disappointed that Evolution isn't the hardcore album they might want, it still has plenty of heavy songs. But if that's all you like then about a third of the album won't really be your thing. If you like their previous albums you'll enjoy this one. I definitely feel like this is their best album to date.

We Oldies Love IT!
I am 66 years old and my wife is 81 years old. We are both avid fans and appreciate the mix of heavy metal and ballads. The musicianship is outstanding as are the lyrics and that gorgeous rich voice of David Draiman. Now, a little advice to the young ones here with the negative reviews....chill out and allow your artists to evolve and introduce you to the tapestry of what they are capable of achieving. True artists push boundaries and grow and they take us with them on their journey and we are the better for it. Listen to the Beatles first and last albums, there is an eternity between these albums.

evolution/disturbed
Ultimo album do disturbed, que apresenta como o nome diz uma evolução em suas letras/musicas. Um album exelente uma das musicas com participação maravilhosa de Myles Kennedy. A banda é sem duvida uma das melhores de rock atualmente.
