Informative on what drives a terrorist
I'm no expert on Islam, but I take it that what's in the book is accurate considering the reputation of the author. This isn't the best book if you want specifics on Islam, because it is written with a limited scope. The limited scope is Islam within the context of terrorism. That's OK, and the author stays that early in the book, so you don't have any expectations dashed. Gabriel helped me understand why terrorists do what they do, and gives a good amount of history about Muhammed and Islam (note, the book isn't a bio on Muhammed). He gives his own personal history and it is quite amazing that he went through what he did. We are blessed that he was able and willing to write this book. He has some chapters on Islam and Muhammed. He has some chapters on Jihad and some of the 'founderss' and leaders. And, he has chapters concerning how Christians may best witness to Muslims. He's not the most polished writer, but I ddidn't hold that against him. The book isn't boring either. Course, I didn't buy the book as entertainment. I've recommended the book to others. It was worth reading to me. I learned a lot from it.

Enlightening and Informative
With so many things happening in the Middle East, I have felt a strong urging to become more knowlegable of Islam and what its followers really believe. Mark Gabriel is someone whose views and insights I can trust, since he is not only an Islamic scholar but someone who practiced the faith for the first 34 years of his life. His story is a remarkable one, and the fact that he managed to get out of Egypt alive indicates to me that God had special plans for him. This is only the first of four books he has written, and I have already ordered two more. Islam and Terrorism explains briefly and in easy to understand language the history of Islam, why so many verses in the Koran contradict each other, why the concept of jihad must be thoroughly understood by Westerners, and how past atrocities such as the assassination of Anwar Sadat are related to what is happening in the world today. I feel much more informed about what true Islam is than I have ever been, and have given a copy of Islam and Terrorism to a brave Christian woman who has recently returned from Iraq and will soon be going to Afghanistan. The ending chapters on how to witness to Moslems and nurture recent converts to Christianity will be of great help to her.

Very Informative!
I am still reading this book, but I have to say anyone who has any questions at all about who is really behind the terrorist and it's not the Muslims, they are the victims; should educate themselves by reading this. I think it is always wise to know how the enemy thinks! I occasionally run across Muslims who are clearly blinded by the teachings of the Quran. This book points out how very contradicting the Quran is. The author gives passages (if that is the correct term) and numbers in the Quran in his book. On two occasions now I have dealt with Muslims who have tried to "convert" me to their belief! I have used this book numerous times to point out to them the lies they have been deceived by and compare it to the teachings of our Bible and God's words. The difference is no doubt like night and day. In a world where the Jihad's final revelation is to Conquer the World we need to know what this book clearly uncovers.Mark Gabriel, an ex-Muslim and former professor of Islamic history at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, the most prestigious Islamic school in the world, explains why terrorist do what they do. His message is graphic. At the age of 12 he he was able to quote the entire Quran. His family has disowned him since his conversion to Christianity and angry Muslims tried to kill him several times. Great Book!!!

Required Reading -- "Know Thy Enemy"
This book is an excellent insight into the minds of radical Islam extremists; written by one who truly was one himself, prior to this conversion to Christianity. I have personally met with Dr. Mark Gabriel (his Anglicized name after conversion) and chatted with him for two hours to come to know his present mindset. His was vehemently against all "infidels,"; especially Christians from his early youth onwards, because of the unremitting training he received as he matured; he details all this in the book and everyone should have this as required reading. I have personally given over 15 copies of this book to those whom I felt must know this message; it's truly an eye-opener! As the holder of five degrees and a present director of university operations for a graduate school in the Southeast, I have found this book to be one of the more informative ones on this subject--written by one who has truly "been there" and "done that"! I have given away over 10 copies of this book to some "politically correct" individuals to enable them to learn the truth, based on fact, and not just the fancy they formeerly held.

The real truth
Mark Gabriel has written the following booksl:1. Against The Tides In The Middle East (1997)2. Islam and Terrorism - first edition (2002); second edition (2015)3. Islam and the Jews (2003)4. Jesus and Muhammad (2004)5. Journey Into the Mind of an Islamic Terrorist (2006)6. Culture Clash (2007)7. Coffee with the Prophet (2008)“Against The Tides In The Middle East” is the first book by Mustafa (alias Mark Gabriel) to tell the remarkable story of his life. Each successive book seems to progressively reveal a little more detail about this life, so, by the time you get to the final book, you have a pretty complete picture of this remarkable transformation. Even if you’re an atheist, it’s difficult to begrudge the happiness he’s found for himself in Jesus.Gabriel’s second book is much better organised than his first book, telling the chilling truth about radical Islam in the Middle-East. The 2002 edition has been updated (2015) and is a very clear and readable account of these chilling developments.

Very informative and engaging.
I decided to read this book after reading a copy of The Qu'ran, as there were many things I was unsure about still from reading the book. I acknowledged many of the violent quotes which seem to have given the Qu'ran a bad reputation, and it was conceivable that many Jihadists in history could have got their ideology from this book, yet there were still many peaceful quotes which contradicted the violent ones, and until reading this book, I was very much stumped by this.Thankfully, Dr Gabriel explained about the process of "anaskh", how the violent quotes overturn the peaceful quotes, as if the peaceful ones never happened, due to the historical context in which they were said. Therefore it shows that true fundamentalist Islam does not promote peace, and these peaceful quotes are not meant to be followed (despite many Muslims picking and choosing from the Qu'ran, and living by the peaceful quotes alone).I also received a good explanation of the history of the Jihadi movements in the past, such as El-Kharij, the Wahhabi movement, Al-Jihad and many more. This showed me how they were all similar in their ideology, and that the modern day Jihadists such as ISIS, Boko Haram, Al Qaeda etc. are strikingly similar to that of the original Muslim Empire, led by the Prophet Muhammad himself!Very eye-opening and informative book. Gabriel has a good writing style and has a thorough, in-depth knowledge of Islam that very few people on this Earth would have. Highly recommended.

I think particularly of people like Karen Armstrong
This author has come from a Muslim background. He is therefore able to write about Islam with supreme authority, unlike other writers who come from a Western background; I think particularly of people like Karen Armstrong, well-respected in the West, but who in fact writes complete drivel that she knows nothing about. If you want to know the REAL truth about Islam then you need to read Mark Gabriel.

Islam and Terrorism
This is an excellent book. It tells you all you want to know about Islam and why they commit those terrible atrocities. It is easy to read and to understand and I recommend it to anyone who wants to understand more about their way of thinking.

A super-enlightening book by a man who knows first-hand what ...
A super-enlightening book by a man who knows first-hand what he's talking about; i.e. former muslim, teacher of Islam, who knew the Koran by heart by age 12 and over 2,000 of the hadith as well.
