No care is required beyond removing algae with a clean, soft material. Avoid touching the sensor with fingers, since skin oils can damage it. Do not use bleach, soap, detergents or hard objects to clean the sensor. Some dye medications may discolour the sensor. Sensitivity improves with age, provided the unit is not allowed to dry out, however, drying does not permanently impair the unit. For maximum sensitivity, the unit should be read under natural daylight or daylight simulating light. Red enhancing light minimizes green and blue hues, decreasing the apparent sensitivity of the unit. The response of the unit may be checked by holding it briefly over the mouth of an ammonia bottle: colour should develop rapidly. Care As little as 0.02 mg/L of free ammonia will produce a greenish hue on the detector surface. This corresponds to a total ammonia (both ionized and free ammonia) of 0.25 mg/L in marine water at pH 8.3. In freshwater at pH 7.0, this corresponds to 3.6 mg/L total ammonia. Free ammonia is much more toxic than ionized ammonia. As free ammonia, the ALERT colour corresponds to about 0.05 mg/L, ALARM to about 0.2 mg/L, and TOXIC to about 0.5 mg/L. The ALERT concentration is tolerated for several days, ALARM for a few days, and TOXIC is rapidly harmful. For emergency ammonia removal, treat with AmGuardâ„. This product is not recommended for use at acid pH. Interpretation Ammonia Alert lasts over 9 times as long as competing products (over a year compared to 4-6 weeks). Ammonia Alert is also almost half the size of competing products (1.5" x 2.5"). It's small, clear, and unobtrusive, so it won't detract from the view of your aquarium. In the absence of free ammonia the unit will assume a yellow or faint yellow-green colour. It is normal for the dry sensor to have a greenish hue. It may take up to a few days for a dry sensor to equilibrate with the water. No sampling of water, chemicals, or test procedures are required.

Peace of mind, has saved me many individual tests
I can't rate this product highly enough, it has been very cost effective and given me great peace of mind. Do to a disaster I've recently had to cycle a new large tank of new water where I had to add the fish straight away. This is quite risky as it can be a stressful nightmare managing ammonia and nitrite levels for a month. In the past I've ended up testing for ammonia several times a day but this time I added this test kit and have been able to check the levels whenever I've walked past the tank.At one point I was worried it wasn't reporting correctly so I used a testing stick which gave the same result. My fish and myself are very grateful for this product. Even though the tank has stabilised (without casualties somehow!) I'll keep the tester inside the tank. It lasts for a year and is so inobtrusive it's silly to remove it.

This works.
I always wondered if this reader worked because since I installed it it’s always been yellow. However, two nights ago it became greener. I made a partial water change, and by morning time it was yellow again. Today, the reader was green again. It seems to me there is an amonia spike in my aquarium and this reader really alerted me to it. I’ve ordered some test stripes as well so I can double check which will be arriving Saturday, but I’m thankful that I have this reader inside my aquarium to alert me.

Critical constant monitoring
This gives you constant alert monitoring that can save your fishes lives and lasts for 12 months. I have used these before and would highly recommend them, I only stopped using when I kept marine fish and swapped to a seneye system to monitor my aquarium water along with more traditional testing. Easy to read and simple to use.

Easy to understand
I had problems in the past with previous fish tanks and having to allways teat the watter. Its not massive and does not take up a lot of space in the tank. Easy to read and understand and helps if anything changes in the tank starts to work within 5 mins.Brilliant product definitely does the job 100%
