Bright enough for most situations and battery life is great.
There are a lot of lights on Amazon, and many of them make dubious claims about their battery life and how bright they are. You know what you're getting with CatEye. The biggest advantage this light has over others in its price range is the battery life. I've been getting the claimed battery life without any problems. That has not been the case with one of the no-name lights I bought. The highest setting is bright enough for almost any situation. The only exception would be technical MTB riding, which this isn't designed for, anyway. I've ridden this on pitch black roads as far away as I can get from traffic and it is plenty bright for that. It's more than enough light for urban commutes with lots of street lights. It's easy to switch modes (even with gloves on) if you have a mixture of the two- just press the big white button. The big downside, as with most CatEye lights, is the mount. I don't know if my unit is defective or what, but it's pretty much impossible to remove the light from the mount. I press on the button until my finger hurts like crazy and the light still won't come out. I got it out once, but haven't been able to do it again. Now I just unscrew the whole thing and remove it from the handlebars. It's easy and fast enough to do, but could be better. My main worry is that I'll end up breaking it from removing it so often. As a whole I'm very happy with the light. I don't know of a light out there that offers such a high output for such a long time in this price range.Side note: I ordered this as a Warehouse deal and it was exactly as described (packaging wasn't perfect, but the light itself was).

Volt 400 A Great Bike Light
Have had my CatEye Volt 400 for four months now, and I love it!! Looks great and does what it is suppose to. I use this to be seen in traffic, not so much as a headlight. So far it holds a charge well. Would definitely recommend this product.A little background to my purchase, hoping it may save others from experiencing my dilemma. I originally purchased the CatEye Volt 300 model, however, the signal that light puts out interfered with my CatEye wireless speedometer/computer. The Volt 400 is "shielded", thus avoiding this interference. Definitely consider the 400 model if you have, or plan to buy, a wireless bike computer.

For a smaller light, it is very bright.
I love the Cat Eye brand and I wanted something that can light up the trail, yet fit in the hand. This product does both. It was a little more expensive than what I wanted to pay (mid $50s), but the product is definitely worth it. I enjoy how universal the mound is with other Cat Eye products.

the battery lasts a good long time
The light is quite bright, the battery lasts a good long time, it mounts very securely. Pretty expensive but worth it.

Buy this light
I love this light. It's very bright. Great for city riding or on a dark paved trail at night. Probably wouldn't be bright enough for mountain biking. Very small, looks sharp, good battery life. Only minor complaint would be that the clip to release the light from the mount is very small. You have to take gloves off to remove it.

Great buy, Great features
Fairly lightweight in comparison to other headlights I have owned. It has a great amount of settings. My favorite is the 200 lumen constant with added strobe, so while it is putting out 200 constant lumens, it strobes to 400. A great add over most. Wile you are thinking that 400 lumen isn't much let alone backing it down to 200, let me just tell you that 200 is sufficient enough even on the darkest trails.
