Amazed I'm the first person to review this
If you have any interest in the history of European involvement in Egypt (I know that's a minority interest, but hey, we all have odd hobbies, right?) this is a tremendous book. There is an incredible depth of research and interest as the author traces the early individual tourists to Egypt in the C18, right through the Imperial adventures and claims of the C19 and 20. Referring to personal correspondence and diaries as they relate to a wider history going on around them gives a clear and informative view of what Napoleon described as "The most important country in the world".if you share my slightly unusual interest, I really can't recommend this book enough - and if you don't I recommend it as interesting, amazingly well-researched, engagingly written and occasionally peppered with a dry wit

Excellent book
When I first received this book I was disappointed by the quality of the printing and the small text. Also it was a second-hand book and the glue of the binding is poor. However, upon reading the contents I am delighted with it......fully of interesting history that I have never read before (I have over 50 books on Egyptian history), extremely well written. Recommended.
