Hewlett Packard Smart Array P800 Controller

This is a great steal depending on the raid array you want to build, it may not have the latest and greatest specs but with the right drives you can create a very high performance RAID array.

Good controller, not the fastest anymore but definitely does the job well. Comes with 2 (two) backup batteries.

NB, this unit requires 3 batteries. I jury-rigged HP batteries to use generic AA ni-h 1.2-volt batteries. Works like a charm.

Only complaint is a bad battery!! these may be new but on shellf for some time ...

be warned ALL these HP cards on heavy discount have 2TB limits to the disks you add, hard to find that info on the HP site or any place selling these HP discounted cards

Max DRIVE support is 2 TB. Though when in a RAID 5 / 6 I can't see using over 2TB because of the long rebuild times. 2TB can take about 6 days especially on RAID 6.
