This is a great steal depending on the raid array you want to build, it may not have the latest and greatest specs but with the right drives you can create a very high performance RAID array.

Good Controller!
Good controller, not the fastest anymore but definitely does the job well. Comes with 2 (two) backup batteries.

Works like a charm
NB, this unit requires 3 batteries. I jury-rigged HP batteries to use generic AA ni-h 1.2-volt batteries. Works like a charm.

2tb limit per DRIVE. 8Zettabytes per volume. Perfect for most situations.
Max DRIVE support is 2 TB. Though when in a RAID 5 / 6 I can't see using over 2TB because of the long rebuild times. 2TB can take about 6 days especially on RAID 6. This matters because on a RAID 5 you only have to lose 2 drivesRAID 0+1 is much quicker if you want to lose half of your data. 50 is a good middle option but I still prefer 2tb drives in a RAID6Max VOLUME support is practically "unlimited" at 8 zettabytes.search "Smart Array P400, P400i, And P800 Controllers - Maximum Logical Drive Size Capability Has Been Increased" in google or you can search "HP Smart Array P400/P400i/P800 Controllers - Maximum" on HPE dot com.
