The light at the end of the tunnel
“Daredevil – The Death of Daredevil” collects issues #606-612 of the Legacy-numbered series, which this volume brings to a close. There is an opening three-part story which brings us the return of Mike Murdock, Matt’s twin brother who we haven’t seen since the 1960s (“Not a Hoax”; “Not a Dream!; “Not an Imaginary Story!”, as they used to say back then). This also sees Matt setting up a team to investigate Wilson Fisk’s election, following the last-page revelation in the previous volume that Fisk rigged his election, consisting of Frank McGee (Inhuman Detective), Reader & Forey the Dog, and Cipher, who he was teamed up with in the Hunt for Wolverine mini-series, “Weapon Lost”, though their first case turns out to be Mike Murdock. The second, four-part, title-story sees the team digging into the election fraud and finding who did it, and having to face down everyone that Fisk can hire to stop them, including almost of Daredevil’s rogue’s gallery. This story opens with Matt in hospital having been hit by a truck when rescuing a kid crossing the road while using their phone. What a strange coincidence, you might think. I certainly did, but I have to say that the ending caught me out completely, despite all the clues.Despite the ending, this was yet another excellent story in the latest in a series of excellent stories and excellent series featuring Daredevil. It really is true that it is good writers that make the comic good, regardless of the characters in it. That’s not to say that there’s anything wrong with the characters in this book; I mean, how long has Daredevil been able to keep a book going compared to, say, Captain Marvel, for instance.THE SPOILER ZONETHE SPOILER ZONETHE SPOILER ZONEFool me once, shame on you.Fool me twice, shame on me.Fool me over and over, then I have to realise that I am really not very clever at all.
