Works perfect for a 1 gallon glass tank!
Here’s the story: my daughter bought me a Betta for my birthday which is in August. So, initially the water temperature was fine for him... now we are in December. Then, a few weeks ago I noticed he wasn’t really eating much, was hanging out on the bottom of the tank and his coloring was changing. When he did get sudden bursts of energy ( which was seldom ) he was swimming cock-eyed, sort of on his side! I knew something was wrong. After searching online... I had come to the conclusion that my Gregory was COLD! His water was too cold for him!! The solution was obviously to get a heater... as per the recommendation online. So, knowing he’s in a one gallon glass fish bowl ( I kicked it old school with his tank ) I knew I needed a smaller watt heater so I didn’t boil him. I can’t be bothered with unplugging it at night and so on. I didn’t want high maintenance. After much research, I found a 5 watt would work. I went on Amazon and found this one and though it took several hours to get it to his ideal water temp ( 78-80* )... it was WELL WORTH THE WAIT!! I had also purchased a sticker thermometer to place on the outside of the tank... which is why I know it took several hours to get to the right temperature. My Gregory was in a bowl with tepid water throughout this whole process.. poor thing. But again, worth the wait. The thing with this heater is because it’s only 5 watt, it’s never going to be hot to the touch. You’re never going to feel heat coming from it. It’s designed to gradually raise the water temperature. So, if you’re not giving it ample time to reach that ideal temperature, then you’re going to think it’s not working properly or at all. But it is. It’s a 5 watt people, it’s not going to go from 64* to 78* in an hour!!!!! I’m extremely happy with this heater as is my betta! He’s happily swimming around and is eating again as of today and his coloring is slowly getting back to normal. I’m sure it’s going to take some time for his colors to be vibrant again. If it took time for him to lose his vibrancy, only makes sense it’ll take time for it to return. My advice is, when you purchase this heater, purchase a thermometer too and KNOW it’ll take hours ( 4 hours to be exact for me ) to get your water to an ideal temperature. Once it gets to that temp, it maintains it... so you won’t have to worry about it raising above to where it should be. Also, when placing in your tank, make sure it’s near the bottom, not touching the bottom, but near it. My first placement was up too high, and the top portion of the water was warm, whereas the bottom was still cold. I repositioned it once it was at 80* and the whole tank is warm now. I’d highly recommend! Thumbs up for this heater!

Great 5watt mini heater but let’s see if it stands up to the test of time.
Great mini heater but let’s see if it stands up to the test of time.Looks great doesn’t take too much space and doesn’t block the light to my plants. Added the heater to my 1.5 gallon high tech shrimp tank and it’s keeping the heat at a decent 70 degrees even in the winter time here in Northern California where it gets cold. Originally I had the Aqueon 10 watt mini heater in here but it was cooking my fishCompared to the Aqueon 10 watt heater(skinny heater) and the Aqueon 7.5watt (large heater in the picture) this keeps my aquarium a nice cool temp 68-72 degrees which is what I aim for and it’s sleek. It’s a bit wider than the 10 watt mini heater but I don’t mind. What I found to me the most frustrating aspect of this product was keeping it flush on the wall. It only has 1 suction cup and depending on how straight or tangled the cord is, it influences the way it sits in your aquarium. It would be great if it came with an extra suction cup at the bottom to keep it flush.I know there have been plenty of reviews of the mini heaters frying their fish or not working but I’ll definitely put up a future review to test it’s lifespan.Pros:-keeps water at steady temp-sleek-doesn’t take too much spaceCons:-not adjustable temp-Not flush with the aquarium unless you manipulate the cord

Swim Shady loves it!
I worried that I would cook Swim Shady in his 1.5gal tank with this heater but it has been fabulous! I got a thermometer so I could monitor the temp. and it has stayed at a consistent 77-78°F. Perfect. My little guy didn't have a heater in his first tank but since moving him to a new home with the heater he's been noticeably more active. He's definitely enjoying himself and I love it!Because this doesn't come with a pre-set temperature option, I would recommend getting a thermometer along with it in order to monitor your tank and make sure everything is working properly. Also, have some patience. It will take a hot minute for this heater to settle in and find a consistent heat to sit at.

How much of a chance are you willing to take?
I have this heater for a 4 gallon tank with a betta. It spikes the temp up to 84 if I forget to unplug it in time. As an experiment, I switched it out to another tank that is 5 gallons. It took a few hours, but after it leveled out it kept the water at a steady 75°I wouldn't reccomend this for a tank smaller than 5 gallons. Maybe the unit I recieved is a little stronger than others, but I'm afraid I keep traumatizing my fish with temp drops amd spikes so I keep a sharp eye on the thermometer and tbh it's getting annoying AF. When I forget overnight the tank is up to 84° by morning.Like I said...maybe mine is it's own unique pain in the arse.I'd say it's a gamble with this heater, but I have found EVERY aquarium heater is.I'm here shopping for the 4th one since I started keeping betta and researching obsessively as much as I can about them about 8 months ago.Honestly it's more of a chore and a budget addition than a hobby...but that's just me

Too hot and leaking fluid
Used it for about 3 days and had to unplug it manually several times when it heated up my 1-gallon Betta tank to 87 (and probably would go higher and soon boil my fish).Room temp is 73.Also, it seems to be oozing some goo from where the cable meets the heating pad. My fish hasn't died but it may be exposed glue? or some other toxic chemical thats basically touching the water... Sadly thus I do not recommend product

Have 2 of the small 2 gallon models and they work in 1 gallon tanks
Bought 2 of the 2 gallon models. 1 for a 1.1 gallon Betta, and 1 for a 1 gallon guppy tank. After 2 days now both have settled in at 77.8 degrees. I have them mounted at the bottom just touching the rocks. This is only day 2, but so far hourly digital reading have remained the same on these and I am happy with the purchase.I will update if something goes chaotic.

Happy fish!!
We have two beta's, Winston and Blueberry. Both are in their own separate 1.5 gallon tanks. This heater does a good job of keeping the water in each tank at a steady temperature. The only thing I don't like is that I cant set the heater to a certain temperature. The temperature of the water depends on the room temperature. We have had no issues so far. It's been a month since installing them and the water temperature has remained roughly the same. The fish are happy and seem to be thriving so that is all that matters!

Mine isn't heating
I don't think mine is working. I read the instructions and followed them but it's not heating. I only have a 1/2 gallon tank and I don't feel any heat from the heater at all. There's no one or off button so it's not that. Did anyone have any problems with it like this when they got it? It took me forever to get the heater due to shipping issues and now it's not working. I've had it plugged in for hours. Sigh

Perfect for my small Beta tank
The heater works perfect for my small Beta tank (approx. 3 gal) I can just plug it in during the cold winter nights and it keeps our Walter nice and cozy without worrying about overheating the water. We turn our heat down to 18.5 at night and this little heater does the trick. Walter is a happy fish and has even started nest building. I'd highly recommend this product for anybody with a small Beta or goldfish tank.

Excelente producto

Good price, works in small Betta tank
This is keeping my water around 74 to 76 degrees. Since I installed it, my Betta has been sooooo happy and much more active. He is swimming all day now, and likes to lay by the heater. Prior to installing the heater, my tank was around 66 and room temperature. Now I am in the "green zone" and my Betta is so happy. I installed a thermometer so I can monitor the temp and the heat has remained stable. Very pleased with this heater, highly recommended.
