Great trap. Tips to improve your results:
The best, period. I've used them for years. The obvious advantages: removable bait area, set it from the back, strong as heck. Here are some tips to improve performance: • wear gloves (eg, disposable latex) when touching the trap so the rats don't detect a human scent; • rub peanut butter on the top front of the trap (ie, its upper lip). I started doing that after seeing (via my Nest cam) rats often smell there first; • use the holes in back to secure the trap to the ground with a thin metal stake, eg, a u-shaped drip line stake. this makes the trap a little tougher to set, but it stops the rats from dragging the trap, eg, into the bushes, partly through a fence...; • if like me you have bigger animals around (eg, raccoons), they sometimes scrape out the bait cup and its tabs, making the bait cup unusable. I still use the traps but put peanut butter further back the tongue/trigger. But recently, as soon as I get a new trap I've been applying super-glue to the bait cup's tabs and then putting it in place. I haven't lost a bait cup since doing this.As you can tell, I've put a little thought and experimentation into this.. : )Finally — my reviews aren't usually this long/detailed, but I've gotten great help/ideas on other products from reviewers who knew them well, so to those who've offered some product guidance, thank you.

Effective - looks scary but seems to kill instantly
I have recently had the opportunity(?) to try various mouse traps as I am currently engaged in the Mouse Wars at my house. And these outperform all the others. In the morning I find these have trapped a mouse and all the others are just empty or they are empty and bait eatenWhat you hear at night (if anything) is a loudish snap when it closes, no squeals, no lingering squeaks, no sounds of trap being dragged around for while. And I have heard all this with other traps in the past. What you find in the morning is trap with the mouse, his head hidden inside and little dead body stretched out and cold. It appears to have died immediately. You can just carry trap with mouse to trash and release like cloths pin - minimal contact. You barely even have to look at it.

Nice reusable kill trap
It seems to be a nearly exact duplicate of the T-Rex mouse trap. There is a removable bait cup you can take out of the bottom of the trap, without having to set it for access. Just make sure that there is something sticky and attractive in it. I use a tiny bit of peanut butter with some kind of starchy food, like cookies, cake or bread. A small drop of chocolate or vanilla on top is a sure-fire attractant that makes the rest irresistible. When placed in a runway, the mouse can't help but spring the trigger to investigate all those goodies. The interlaced "teeth" do all the work. They crush and hold so quickly that there hasn't been any reaction in my experience. The trap will kill instantly whether approached from the front or side and pretty much is designed to prevent an approach from the back.Releasing the victim is as easy as setting the trap initially and disposal is generally a no-touch (if not no-see) affair. The nice thing is the bait is usually not gone and the trap can be reset and used again, multiple times.

didn't attract any rats
put these traps all over my yard with peanut butter. NO captures. Going to try it again with a big piece of cheese so they have to tug at it. Seems trigger is to tight to be effective. Won't ever buy again.

Effective almost 100% of the time!
We have tried a number of products to help us get rid of the rats in our yard. This is the first one that has gotten them almost 100% of the time! They are easy to set and the gel that attracts them is very affordable. We highly recommend this product!

Not too bad.
Seems that the trip plates are tot hard to trigger for smaller mice. Only catches the mouse about 1/2 the time. Love the part that unscrews so that you can add bait.

Killed the rat
Simple to use, killed a couple rats. Only downfall was the bait cup was a pain once it fell out.

Excellent Trap Very Effective
Amazing and effective. This will snap and hold and kill instantly. Best thing is you don't have to touch the icky and repulsive rodent nor will you get your finger snapped if you do it right, so easy. Use a q tip to put peanut butter in the hole for bait, set it and forget it. Much better than the old wooden traps and the new wooden traps with the yellow paddle, throw those out and buy this. Jaws of death works amazingly.

GOT THE WEE VERMAN!
After three weeks of trying to catch this rat, I got this rat within two days of receiving the Tom Cat traps. Rats are quite smart, probably even as smart as dogs, if not smarter. One needs to set the trap(s) and then leave them alone (the more you handle or are near the area, the more they pick up on human sent). Rats and mices must have consistency and feel safe in the area you put the traps before they venture to the traps. I found the Tom Cat easy to load the bait cup because it comes out of the bottom, then locks back into place, and then just push down on the back of the trap with your hand or foot to set it. The other thing that I think was the key to catching this rat was the serrated edges. Since I caught this one by the lips; if the serrated edges were not there, it could have slipped out, because rats are very strong. Highly recommended.

The traps mysteriously ran away
I’ve used this style but geared towards mice before without issue, these however were set off 2x without catching anything before they grew legs and walked away? No trace of them at all. I’m out $30 and caught nothing
