Edouard Vuillard

Wonderful articles and good reproductions. Vuillard is my favorite painter and this brought back to me the fantastic Vuillard retrospective at the National Gallery some years ago now. His pictures started out so small and intimate but grew to be enormous at the end of his painting career and were so arranged at the Gallery and in this catalogue. For anyone who loves Vuillard, this is the book on his work. But I'd REALLY love to see that exhibit again: going from small interiors to gigantic portraits. This is the best that can be done for now.

The paper back is not the same book as the hard cover. Deceptively, they are presented as the same book with a different type of cover. But, the paperback is a thin, tiny pocketbook. The hard cover is large and thick. You need a magnifying glass for the pictures in the paper back. The hard cover Will have larger images.

Books on Vuillard are difficult to find in the US. This has a lot of images. The plates are not as good as the ones I've seen in books at the art library. However, this is reasonably priced, and the sellers customer service is excellent.

i've only found one vuillard collection bigger (better) than this one. it's the complete collection: a 3 volume set (same page size as this book). i've only seen it in art libraries in large universities; it must cost hundreds. for us mortals, Cogeval's selection will satisfy 99.99% of the vuillard fans out there. the image quality is quite good -- i've seen them framed. and the text is well written.

Terrific reproductions, great bio and lovely feel to this handsome volume. I admire Vuillard for his ability to use what are generally dank tonals to achieve such melodious, satiny and harmonized compositions. As a painter I look for the best repros to help me in my own training. A fellow painter friend's borrowed it and I'm still not sure if I've gotten it back.

Just what I was looking for. Nice color/printing. I don't read a lot of text with this kind of book, so I can't comment there.

I love Edouard Vuillard and was so excited to receive this book but what a shock I got! It is a tiny little book with blurry prints of some of his lesser known paintings. Definitely not worth it.

A great collection of paintings, lots Iv never seen before, but this book is too small to do justice to the images.

Very small book with insufficient text and illustrations split between two pages. A bit disappointing.
